The thought is, why don't all the consoles get together, to make this great big server, so we can all play agaisn't each other on the internet!
It IS possible, all would be needed was a kinda software converter so they could recognise all different types of games from consoles, so the gamecube version code would be the same as the PS2 code on the internet, like how JAVA works.
It would be a great idea, and now matter what console, PS2, gamecube, Dreamcast, XBox, or even PC, we could all beat the faeces out of each other.
It would also not encourage buyers to buy a single console, to play agaisnt their mates, as it doesn't matter what console you have.
What does everyone think?
The only propblem could be that some versions differ from others. For example, the PS2 UT has brand new levels. Of course, the PC could receive these levels on an expansion CD, and when the PS2's HD unit is released, the same could happen there.
Not that it will happen any time soon, but there's a lot to be said for companies setting aside previous petty rivalries and working together. THEN gamers will really benefit.
GameCast PlayBox anyone?
Or DreamBox PlayCube?
Or PlayBox DreamCube?
Or GamePlay DreamBox? That's a good one...!
Anyway... They could do that i suppose, but they would have to have the same games for every system for folks to be able to play against people on other systems. Anyway, they want you to buy their console and no one else's so they wouldn't be interested in the spirit of cooperation i would'nt have though. After all, they are big companies out to make money. It's a good idea though, no question about that, just unlikely. Still if you really want to play games with people all over the world you can do it with a PC, lots of people have PCs and there are already loads of good games you can play multiplayer. Plus there's the added bonus of being able to download mods, expansions and updates from all over the place. You also get the advantage of a fast modem and the option to get an ADSL or ISDN or so forth. So everyone should buy a PC, good games, great multiplayer, and great multiplayer community of which i am a member 8'P. Don't let that put you off though.
