So, I have owned my PS2 for about a year and a half, so far I have accumulated 26 games to my collection, some good, some very good and a few that are…well rubbish. I consider my collection to be rather good, other wise I would have not got half the games I own, but 3 of these games in my collection have made my gaming on the PS2 complete all on there own. These 3 games on there own have made me feel joy and laughter, made me frightened and showed me a sadder and more deep full side to gaming. What are these 3 games that I have enjoyed playing more than any? Pro Evo, MGS 2 and Silent Hill 2. If I had to take my PS2 and a select few games, for me these 3 would do fine. Why? Because the way they have made me feel while playing them no other game has ever done.

Firstly, as most know im a footy nut, I love the game, too much sometimes, and so when they bring a game like Pro Evo out, that basically puts the real thing on a disc I was more than pleased. This has to be my favourite game of all time, it takes everything that is good about the game and brings it to your TV whenever you want it. The fact that it plays so real is something that has to be played to truly believe. I have spent so many hours on this one game just playing matches over and over again, every time it’s different. And why do I play this game? Because its one of the few games that you can just put in and play and enjoy it so much. The game made me express so many emotions, joy when I scored with a stunning chip from 20 yards, disbelief when my player got sent of for a mere tap, and even pain and anguish when my shot crept past the post or my player was tackled from behind nearly braking his leg.

Pro Evo is one of those games that truly brings out the inside of you in so many ways, at times I use to jump to my feet when things didn’t go my way, its that type of game that really absorbed me in the atmosphere of the occasion, one memorable occasion was when I lost, unfairly, to Germany in the World cup, me being England that was not a very good game, and I genuinely felt mad by what happened. If only the commentary was better, it would truly be like sitting there on a Sunday afternoon watching Sky TV. This is one game that goes in my PS2 every week.

Next, MGS2, obviously most PS2 fans favourite and at time for very different reasons. For me, this game has been a great buy for many reasons, the game play is brilliant and one that is very varied, its not like most action epics, there is far more to the game than just running around like an headless chicken shooting anything that moves, no no, this was a game for the thinking man. It often tried to trick you, make you jump, make you think about how you were actually going to get passed the scenario at hand. Not only this, but too, this game was different every time I played it, the story never changed, but my approach did. At times where I once went on a shooting blaze and got killed, the next time I had experience, and so changed what I did, and went for stealth, and this is something that I could do all the time. What really did impress me is the amount of ways that you could dispense of your foes, that really did vary the game.

But what made this game for me, being my second favourite ever were the emotions you felt while playing the game, both from the play and the storyline. Game play wise, the game always seemed to surprise me, something always seem to crop up which I think, ‘wow, that was cool’. In places it just so different from other games that have tried to step in the MGS shoes but never quite make it. But what really made me feel different emotions in this game was the story line. It was truly a work of art, combining the feeling of adrenaline, shock, joy and sadness, all through the game there was just something that you felt. The strongest feeling I got was a moment of sadness with the Otacon and Emma scene. Yes it was only a game, but the way it was put across really made you feel for the poor chap, ok I was not close to tears but the feeling was there. And again, at the end, when things turn out weird I was totally surprised, thinking what the hell is really going on. I spent the next hour…after completing it still thinking about the events. How many games can you list that actually had you trying to suss the plot after its finished, and how many games can you name that lead you on and shoot you in another direction like that storyline. Pure Genius.

Finally, my third game of the year, Silent Hill 2. The first was great, this one is excellent. Its storyline is not quite as good as MGS2, but it more than makes up for that in its atmosphere. The atmosphere in this game is, im sure one of the best ever created, I have never been so scared playing a game in the dark throughout my gaming life. With every loud noise I jumped, as the radio began to sound as a ‘thing’ came near me my heart began to pound, I have never been so scared playing a game than I have playing this. The excellent graphics and great sound made the atmosphere almost life like, all the walls were stained and the whole place seemed abandoned, what better way to create and eary atmosphere, and the story line too was very good. Not one of the best, there has been better but it was one that truly did suit the game.

This was one of those games that I felt I just had to complete, I could not stand not knowing what was going on, but then when I did put it on I wanted to turn it off, not one of the best games to play at 1 am, which is when I played the most of the game.

These games though are the 3 that have made my gaming life the past year and so a pleasure, not only have they gave me some great entertainment, but they made me feel things that I thought that no game would ever make me feel, it just shows how far games have come over the past few years… a long way in a very short time. What truly makes me think though, is the fact that these 3 games are all made by Konami, it just proves to me what a great company they really are. Ok, your best game may be by someone different, but you can’t doubt that they are truly class games.

To round things off though, if there were to be 3 games that could match the standards of these games to be released in the next year I would be more than happy, of course I would want more, but games of this standard do not come up very often. So, once again, I would just like to thank Konami for some great experiences over the past year, and few months.

Yup, Konami are ranked high in my current estimation and if i wanted any company to do very well it would have to be them. They seem to have employed some of the best game developers around and there games have always been a joy to play, along with the 3 i mentioned there was also Zone Of the Enders, made by Hideo and that too was very good.

I have to agree and comment on Konami as a games developer, they seem to know 'what the people want' rather than 'what will make them the most money' The three games you mentioned would be on many peoples list of great games, I own Pro Evo and MGS 2, but cannot comment on Silent hill (as I havent got it). I have bought probably every ISS game that came out on the PS 1, I love the game and when I played the PS 2 version I wondered if there ever will be another better football game that betters it (rather than it bettering itself) Fifa. As for MGS 2 - I was left breathless when I first played this game and I still love it. This is probably the best game ive ever played and it's 'my kind of game' its so amazing how this game was made and I am just glad that I have been able to own it. I also think GTA 3 would be aup there with the best of them.

I've noticed Konami's run of developing good games as well.

Another company that's also done the same is Rockstar. They've produced GTA3, SOE, Max Payne and so on, so credit to them also.

My top three games for the PS2 recently would be:

Pro Evo Soccer
MGS2
&
DMC

I'm somewhat looking forward to getting Parappa the Rappa 2.

Don't laugh, he's cool!
