As its Halloween, why not make up some short scary stories. Let me start:

Trick Or Treat
Andy traditionally hated Halloween, the whole idea of dressing up, or going to a themed party never appealed to him when he was younger, and his dislike of the day hadn't faded since. But this year, his October 31st was turning out quite well, he had managed to smooth talk his way back to Vickys house. Vicky had started to work in the same office as Andy two weeks ago, and every guy there, single, married or anything inbetween, immediately fell for her. Andy was no exception. He knew that the next day in the office there would be jealous looks from all those around if he could just close the deal.

Everything was going good, the two of them had just enjoyed a takeout meal, and had crashed on the sofa to watch a film. It was getting dark outside, and Andy was feeling in the zone, if everything went to plan it wouldn't be long before he would definately have something to brag about the next day. Vicky excused herself to go to the bathroom, leaving Andy alone on the sofa, half watching the film, half fantacising about what was ahead. Suddenly, there was a loud, deliberate knock at the door.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

Andy tried to ignore it, hoping that whoever it was would go away. But after twenty seconds or so of silence, a second round of knocks echoed through the house, this time louder than the first.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

Realising that this person wouldn't go away, andy sneaked a peek out of the window, but couldn't see anyone, as a garden ornament was blocking the way, but as the person couldn't be seen over the ornament, it must have been a small child, an adult would have been visable. Sitting behind the door, Andy called to the person 'Go Away!'. But yet again, the door was knocked this time even louder, shaking the door at each knock.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

'You won't get anything, I dont believe in Halloween, and theres nothing you can do to get anything, so don't bother saying anything!' Screamed Andy.

After this there was nothing but silence. Andy felt relieved, as for some reason he felt an unearthly chill, while sitting up against that door. His throat was dry, so he went into the kitchen to get a drink. When picking up a glass, he noticed his hand shaking. He felt like an idiot, was he really scared by some trick or treater knocking at the door. Suddenly, he heard a smash from the front room, he ran in and found the front window had been smashed. Looking outside he could see no one, obviously he thought, the tick or treater had decided to play a trick on him, and smashed in the window.

It was now that Vicky returned, now dressed in only skimpy nightwear. As she saw the broken window, her face sank. She asked Andy to explain what had happened, and he duly said everything he knew. Putting on a dressing gown, she asked Andy to leave, explaining that it would take all night to get someone in to fix it.

His hopes for a night with the new girl now gone, Andy grabbed his coat from the coat rack next to the door, and left for the short walk back to his house.

During his walk back to his house, he not once thought about what he had lost out on, instead his thoughts were concentrated on the knocks at the door, they were really loud, no kid could make that much noise. Although the walk home was less than a mile, Andy took 20 minutes to get there as all the way home, he was checking behind him for that trick or treater, andy was really creeped out.

As he approached his home, he noticed his wifes car in the driveway, so he reached into his coat pocket for his wedding ring, but it wasn't there. His fear of the trick or treater dissapated as the fear of what his wife would do if he didn't have his ring replaced it and exceeded it by a factor of ten. Panic rushed over him, as he rushed back to Vickys house where the ring must have fell out of his coats pocket.

The trip back to Vicky's house only took five minutes, but when he knocked on the door there was no answer. He checked the back door and it was open, he went in and couldn't see either Vicky or his ring.Deciding to count his losses he headed home.

As he approached his front door, he noticed a beam of light on its right side, the door was slightly open, he swung the door open but could hear none of the noices usually in his house, no TV, no radio, not even his wife talking. Suddenly the phone rang and he raced for the phone, but it died as soon as he picked it up. Looking down, he saw the floor around the phone leading into the kitchen was covered in what looked like blood.

Following the trail, Andy walked through the kitchen and then down into the basement, at the base of the stairs he saw a mass, but could not make it out in the dark, hitting the light switch on, he realised what the mass was, it was the blood soaked bodies of his wife and vicky. The Basement door slammed, and on the back attatched by cellotape was his wedding ring and wallet, along with the words written in blood 'Trick or treat'.

I made it up as I went along, but its a very formulaic morality tale, so I guess there are probably loads like it.

I'm not sure, but is this from any horror book? It does sound similar to something I have heard before.
