In fact it was over about 5 years ago when the Playstation originally came out, except very few seem to have realised.
Day after day, topic after topic is created about how the Gamecube is worse than the Playstation 2, or the Xbox is worse than the Playstation 2, or this Xbox game is worse than this Playstation 2 game. It isn't worth it, most of us don't care.
You see, the price tag of consoles/games since the Playstation has meant that most gamers are more concerned with playing games and enjoying them than having pointless playground style arguments over "whose best".
All the consoles out now have good and bad points and they are not all realy suitable for everyone, but when you, as gamer, buy one then please buy one you're actually happy with, and not one that means you feel you must attack every other opposing console and their supporters !
Even so, console gaming now is becoming what it always should have been, focused on gameplay. Developers have tried, and for the most part, failed to sell games on graphics alone. Gamers have got smart, we don't fall for that so often now, though at Christmas you do have to wonder...... See how easy it is to suddenly spin off and start "having a go" at something ? Harry Potter, last christmas, on the PSONE may have been the work of the horned one him/herself (if you believe in that sort of thing) but many many people bought it and enjoyed it. Look at the FOG chat topic about the new Britney game. A small minority of gamers have decided that Britney=bad game that should never exist. The same applies to endless, pointless comparisons of games between formats. "Max Payne is better on Xbox because you see more bullets in the air"; Yes, fine, but most don't care, the gameplay is the same for Max Payne whatever format you choose to play it on. Whatever bizarre or technical argument you have, it doesn't matter ! You, arguing on a forum or to your mates or where ever are not going to change anything, apart from giving gamers a generally bad reputation, and boring a lot of people.
Gamers can discuss differences, but few of us can do this constructively, and if you cannot do that it isn't worth discussing it because it is not interesting. For example, the Xbox Hard Disc Drive means that persistent worlds are now possible, this has to be good for any game, not "Xbox hrd drv mens u get ded bodies everywhere", or "u ave to pay 100 just for a thing a PC can by for 50".
So, buy consoles, buy games. Play them, enjoy them, discuss them, remember thaqt not everyone likes what you like and accept that, but it really is game over once the playing turns to fighting.......

lol
I have already been playing since the days of the Nes, so thats about 10 years already, i dont want to tot up the amount of money i have spent on the stuff! :D
Well anyway, its worth it, otherwise i could be watching Emmerdale, and thats not a good thing.
All we want to do is play good games and let hope the developers keep churning them out for whatever console comes along. I dont care wether the X box and Gamecube succeed or fail - I would prefer themn both to succeed so that we have a bigger choice of what and how we play and so that I can try some different things in the future.
And by the way PE - you will still be playing in 2010 and a lot longer than that - once you are hooked you will always want to play, believe it when it comes from a sad old git who has been playing since the Spectrum ZX81 !
The "this console is better than that console debate" is getting boring and as a result pointless topics and threads occuring, which I know is annoying the more sensible members.
After a while, the war got boring, and in the end there was still no clear winner. In the end, i didnt care, and still dont. My main aim is to enjoy playing the games as i do now, as long as i enjoy them, ill keep playing, whether it be on PS2, X-box, GC or whatever is out in 2010 if im still playing.
My point, i dont care what im playing as long as i enjoy it, when i stop enjoying games, ill stop playing.
