Technology is rapidly changing in modern life, and this has it's effect on modern gaming also.
New consoles and other electronic gadgets usually follow along with the latest trends and styles, and are therefore aimed at being suitable for the modern human being.
But sometimes things can go too far, and the latest gadget can influence people to make the wrong descisions for themselves, when they know there is another option they should have opted for.
This is happening in the gaming world today, and it has already effected people's descisions as to why they decide to choose one console over the others.

Extra capabillities, add-ons, and other plus-features are becoming a growing trend with the latest console designs.
At the moment it appears that DVD's are the no.1 thing that a console must have. And many gamers now believe that a console is nothing without one - and the situation is even worse, just becasue it cannot play audio CD's either!
This is a prime example of many people's views on the GameCube, and is also why people have already gone out and brought their big X-box's and PS2's, without even considering the 'little guy'.

On-line gaming is currently the future, and there will no dount be something else to take this same name within time.
Sony are currently the only company to announce on-line plans for their console and games, and this has helped many people makes the descision of choosing the PS2.
If you know Microsoft then you'll also know that they make PC's - kings of on-line multiplayer games!
So many existing on-line gamers can feel confident that they won't have to wait long to be playing Halo on-line, due to the huge success that on-line gaming has become for PC's.
And once again, Nintendo and the GameCube have been critisised for no announcements or even rumours about their on-line plans (if any), again keeping their fans in the dark. But the slot for a modem adaptor must be there for SOME reason - don't write off Ninty so easily!

Incase you didn't know, or you've ignored ALL information about the X-box, Microsoft's giant monster box is currently the most powerfull console ever created to this date. Many people will be choosing this monstrsity over the others, maninly due to it's high-specs and powerfull processors.
The PS2 will also become a favourite as it is second powerfull, and also second cheapest to the X-box.
But the GameCube will just once again be ignored by these standards and comparissons, as it appears to be too small and weak. Even if it's graphics are more stunning and realistic than that of the PS2's!

For some reason, many gamers appear to be just looking at a game or console, and then deciding that it is or isn't the one for them. This is not the way to make descisions, as many men may know from the one or two Essex-blondes they have accidentally picked up!
The X-box once again tops the chars in this competition, as it has the top proccessors and graphical power.
Then comes the PS2 - with poorer graphics than the GameCube - but it is still preffered as many Nintendo games still look too 'kiddy' for the 'hardcore gamers'.

If you are one of those people who makes gaming descisions on sunjects like this, then you are doing it all wrong!
What is the purpose of a 'games' console???
To play games - and your descision shouldn't be effected if a new DVD player or massive HD is bundled in aswell.
What do you do with games???
Play them, of course. So to find out which games are good and which are bad, you should try and play them first before buying them, and not judge them on how they look, and not neccesarily by what your mate says!

If you still haven't made your descision of which of the 3 next-generation consoles you intend to buy (if any), then take these points into account:
-What type of games do you like - and have the best appeal to you???
-Which format and games did you enjoy most from the last generation???
-Do you think you could find your top-games on other formats??
-In general, which games company do you think are YOUR personal favourite????
-Would you really need a DVD player?

So think carefully next time you decide you want a new console or some new games.

Yeah, money always has and always will be a problem in the gaming world.

Many people desperate now for a new console won't be choosing their 'most wanted' X-box, and will instead go for the much cheaper and more reasonabley priced GameCube or PS2.

All types of games appeal to me - from magical (so-called kiddy) games to serious adventures/sims to all-out action/fun games, so really I need all the consoles in order to satisfy my diverse tastes.
My ideal scenario would be to own a PS2, Xbox & GameCube and have them set up side by side with three TVs, then I could pick and choose the games I buy depending on my mood.
It IS the games that matter.... the more diversity in your game collection the better.
Sadly (for most gamers) the availability of hard cash hinders their choices.
If only there was a single format.... but then this would probably bring with it a new set of limitations.
