Big names always please their fans, and do almost 99% of the time have a big and positive effect on their team's performances from then on.
But the problems can begin when a highly-anticipated player doesn't appear to be performing how they fans want and expect him to, and he appears to be a 'waste of big money'.
Here are some examples of players who have started wrong:
Diego Forlan - The Uruguyan U-21 international was known as a goal-scorer during his time in Argentina with Indipendiente. And after a £6.9m 'dream move' to Old Trafford, he felt ontop of the world, with his chances even greater of getting a place in Uuguay's World Cup squad.
But things haven't started out as well as he would've hoped. He's still yet to score one goal after a hand-full of first-team apearences, and has barely even looked threatnening infront of goal, with a majority of the unkown striker's shots missing the target in a poor display. But aside from his finnishing, he has looked confident on the ball, and may have the pace to turn all first-impressions around.
Juan-Séba Veron - He completed a dream move to the Premiership in a record-breaking £28.1m transfer from Italian giants Lazio to champions Manchester United.
He started his first league season here in England quite well with a goal or two, but has since failed to repeat these first-impressions. Veron has also become known as the main reason for United's poor-form earlier in the season, as his addition to the squad forced Fergie to change from a 4-4-2 formation to the un-succesfull 4-4-1-1.
This critisism hasn't helped him to improve or re-capture his impressive from from his days in Italy, and it has also led to speculation linking the Argentinian with a move back to Rome side Lazio.
Everyone knows Veron as a world class talent, and I think that it's only a matter of time now before he begins to show it off again in the Premiership and Europe.
No doubt that all this critisism and media speculation hasn't helped him settle in to English life either.
Steve Marlet - Believe it or not, but with a name like 'Steve' Marlet is French! But not just any French striker! He was known back in his native country as one with an 'eye for goals'. He has proven this theory with goals galore in France, and has even staked his strong-claims for a place in the French national squad for this year's World Cup!
An £11m move to Fulham and recognition from the great Jean Tigana just goes to show the potnetial and abillities that this player is capable of!
But life at Craven Cottage hasn't started aswell as he and the Fulham fans woul have hoped. They were expecting Marlet to become the next goal-machine like Saha, but instead have become very dissapointed in the league especially.
I thin that the Frenchman has only grabbed just no more than 5 goals, and a majority of those (if not all of them) have come in the League Cup!
But i'm sure that with a little time and patience, Marlet will realise that he's just playing with better players in a tougher league, and the goals will soon start rolling in!
These are just 3 examples of players who have joined the Pemiership this season, only to 'dissapoint' their fans who move back from the edges of their seats.
All new players need time to settle in at a new club and it's surroundings, just like you do when you move house or school, or even change from one job to another.
If an employee cannot feel happy and adapt well to the enviroment and life around them, then they cannot give the 100% effort they are capable of in the office or on the pitch.
Some players take longer than others to adjust to the styles of a new country, mainly due to the language and communications. Part of the problem with the Chelsea team when Ranieri first arrived was that he could only speak Italian and Spanish among flocks of many other nationallities. They all just need time! Then they'll be back to their best!
Critisism also isn't helpfull, as it can effect their mood and un-settle them further, making them feel that they cannot fit-in in their new home.
So next time you feel like having a moan at your club's new signing, stop, think, and give them some time and space.
I also cannot believe that he didn't score yesterday with that one chance - so close!! And that also applies to the rest of the team. He also looks like he can play and work well with the rest of the team, which also helps to show those signs of promise.
I can't wait for him to score his first goal, and he has already scored in the reserves this season!
Diego Forlan shows signs of promise, but to hear Man Utd fans going around slagging him off is beyond me. Why do they do it? No offence to some of the real Man Utd fans, but most of them just do not have a clue at all.
When Angel came to Villa, although he didn't start as well as he wanted to, I could still see signs of promise in him and so could all of the other people in the Villa Faithful. We got behind the player and always chanted his name, making sure he knew that he had time to settle in and look at him now, one of the best strikers in the premierhsip.
This is to all the Man Utd fans reading this, although I don't like Man Utd as a club (I actually have a reason, remember the FA Cup, or a few years ago where you pipped us to the title?), get behind Forlan and stop slating him off. This is just to most of the Man Utd fans mind, people who know what they are on about will be doing this already because they will be able to see the same potential that I do in him.
Forlan looks like showing more of the potential that pushed Ferguson to spend £6.9m on him - he is getting really close to getting his first goal, and I get the feeling that once he breaks his duck, the goals will start flowing
Two more good examples of foreigners who have gone from early bad spells to becmong world-class while also attracting interest from other big-name clubs around Europe - Bergkamp especially!
And I also recall that the same happened with Jaap Stam.
But he also finnished his United career badly - due to the autobiography comments.
