Why?
Well lets just say that Sony can't cope with the high demand for the game, and so, there wont be enough copies for the amount of pre-orders. Supposedly, there will be roughly 500,000 copies that people will still be waiting for next Friday, whilst the other 1.2 million lucky gamers get to play this majorly hyped title.
That's humilating for Nintendo to say the least, who were happy with a sell out of 500,000 copies of Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube last month!
Call me a heretic if you wish, but I think Sony, or Rockstar who deserve the credit, have done a very good job, even if the new GTA turns out to be crap! They'll be making a fortune in the UK, despite whatever happens to the worldwide sales! Nintendo haven't done this well for a good while now!

Yes, I can sense your (crappy) attempt at sarcasm, there... and may I just say that you're about as funny as having herpes.
Now that I've got that out of the way, I was saying that Sony aren't relying on the quality of their consoles and games to shift them, but on their reputation alone. Nintendo have been making great consoles and great games for practically 20 years, and anyone forking out money for a Nintendo console does so because they know that it's going to meet the highest quality and standards... whereas anyone buying the PlayStation when it was released only did so because of Sony's reputation as an electronics manufacturer, even if the console and games themselves were shoddy.
Or perhaps there is something else to it.

Hmmm. I`ve got used to people saying that they are the only two games that are any good on the machine. A lot of PS2 haters often say that kind of stuff, and I suppose its down to opinion, so I shouldn`t complain, but to say that those two games are some of the "few" reasons for the success of PS2 is just idiotic. They are a factor in the UK, and partially in America, but they play a very small part in Sony's success. The things that make a console a success are sometimes different from the things you see as being good, besides, the PS2 was already selling extremely well before GTA3 arrived, and sells just as well in Japan where the game is a lot less popular.
Anyway, judge the game when you have played it. Might be brilliant, might be crap. *shrug*
GTA3 has lasted me this long, nicking a helicopter is bound to make for an excellent game.
Quite worrying though, I'm sure it's a great game and all but you wouldn't expect the nature of this title to appeal to so many people in such a small area. I'm gonna make doubly sure that I lock all my windows tonight...
If the GC had the huge PS2 user base, I'm sure Mario Sunshine would have sold a shed load more copies.
