Today, the school system failed again.

Yes, this is going to be one of those posts that goes on about me and my day. As I write, maybe I’ll find a meaning to the posts. If there is one, I’ll tack it on at the end. I like reading these posts when other people do them, so I guess there must be at least one other freak who’ll want to read about me. If this comes out too moany, or I sound like an illiterate groundling who’d prefer to smash his face against a wall than learn…sue me.

Anyway, disclaimer out the way – today, the school system failed again.

At my school, and I assume at many others, we have after school detentions. Fair enough – Lunchtime detentions don’t really make much of a difference to some people, because they’re not enough hassle. If anything, a lunchtime detention can alleviate the boredom of lunchtime. You stay for an hour after school. Now, if I’ve been told right, to attend one of these you have to have both the consent of your parents and 24 hours notice. By law.

I had one of these today, for the mundane reason of not having done homework. Geography coursework, which the school is making us do a year early. And they’re imposing their own deadlines for all sections of work, because they think we’ll keep up better that way. That’s bollards, IMO – I reckon it’s just so they can keep track of the illiterate groundlings, not for the benefit of more able students like me.

That is irrelevant, really. Just something I wanted to put in for the sheer hell of it.

But anyway, I had an ‘after-schoolie’ today. And I was not alerted to this fact until 14.38 today, two minutes before the end of my I.T. lesson, and thus the term. One of the teachers who had a free period was sent to collect me, and she told me that I had an after school detention.

To which I replied, ‘eh?’

So I went with her – not really much else I can do there. And I get into this detention, and I argue with the people on duty. They eventually find my form tutor, who claims he gave me a detention slip telling me I had the damn thing on Monday.

He lied.

I know he did. That isn’t the kind of thing I forget. Pot doesn’t damage your brain that much.

I even have proof he did. All of the slips for the Geography slackers, about 8 of them, were handed out on Tuesday. Quite how he would manage to give to me on Monday, when it didn’t exist until Tuesday, is beyond me. I was away at a ‘most able student’ convention on Tuesday. He probably forgot to give it to me the day after. And then he lies.

I ended up doing the detention, and walking 3 miles home. On the way I stopped in town to have a look in the ex-rental box in the usually terrible Blockbuster, and Sexy Beast is in there for a tenner. Goatboys been making a lot of noise about it, and so I really want to see it.

It is also an 18. And the groundling wouldn’t serve me.

So I plod the rest of the way home, with rage brewing inside me. Thanks to this rage, I’ve drafted a formal letter to the school, expressing my anger. I don’t know if I’ll ever send it to them, but it worked as self help.

And that is my day. I found out how messed up school can be.

Cheers if you read that.

heh. at my school they used to try to get round the 24 hours thing by saying when they gave a certain homework out, that everyone had after school detention, and would only be excused from it if the homework was in.

dirty law abusing monkeys.

i think you should follow it up, as a matter of principle. maybe go outside the school's authority though. hooky barstubs always cover their ash.
only, if you do, be prepared to be... looked at in a different light, by the teachers. maybe a couple will respect you for standing up for yourself, but the majority will probably just hold a grudge against you for going after 'one of them'. And it's possible that you might end up getting your personal tutor in some deep spit. Just be sure you want to, you could be screwing with the guy's career over a minor matter. Then again, maybe he'll just get a slap on the wrist, i'm no expert on these things

I read it, and it just goes to show how dumb and bad at the job tutors are! I've only had 2 different tutors at my school, and they both never give us notices and letters on time!! It's always a week or two later, and we just laugh at him.

I think you should send that letter and I hop you get something back from it all. No doubt the school will try and get money from you somehow!
