The other options are decent audio equipment, which would be great unless your films still look shaky and handheld. Or decent lighting equipment, which would be nice, if not a little impractical because once you start carting lighting equipment round you have to ask filming permission, and we intend to be more guerilla...
So it's basically a choice between the different sorts of camera stabilising systems.
I suggest you look around before making your purchase though as prices on the JR's can really vary £600 up and down from the RRP.
Other equipment, I would say look for some decent Canon DV cameras, as I find these to offer the best quality and they also have stabilisers built into them. They work nicely with the JR as well.
Any other questions? I am not sure what you are looking for but having used a JR at a convention I can say they are worth it if you need one.
