As a member of this site by now you probably have at least one console. Whether its a PSOne, N64, DC or one of the next gen consoles like the GBA, PS2 or the recently recieved X-Box. But really which is worth you cash? And is it worth owing more than one? Well hopefuly this will help you decide....

HANDHELD

When it comes to handhelds Nintendo is somewhat of a monopoly. There really isnt any competition and when there was some even if it had superior graphics etc it fell to the mighty wrath of Nintendo - its really in the Handheld market that nintendo is at its prime and this was boosted by the pokemon franchise and all other things Nintendo like Mario - and weve had some gems that ive been proud to own over the years. With the recnet price drop of the GBA and the great range of titles to own on it - sonic advace and mario kart to name some it really is a great hand held to own - and with future GC compatibilities and some really coll stuff for it it will easily last as long as the Game Boy Colour. Its down right the handlheld single holder to the throne and is challenged by no other -unless Sony do decide to go ahead with any ideas, but overall a wicke handheld that you should own even if you own console - 9/10

CONSOLE

The way i see it there is really 3 main consoles going into the console war that is sure to fued and bring out the zealots of each. The Dreamcast is sadly dead really although SR have it at a great price and its really worth a look just for Powerstone 2 alone - a class game and i wish the PS2 or another console had it...

But to go onto the main competitors - firstly the oldest of the next gens the PS2. It may not be as powerful as the X-Box but its pretty compact, comes with DVD playback straight from the box with no costly controll and has been out a while so has a great platinum range and some brilliant games such as MGS2, GT3 and GTA3 just to name a few as well as TH3 and Devil May Cry - some awsome games to own. Its not technically superior but with the new price and the amazing cinematic MGS2 it has to be a console on your birthday/christmas list. Basically its well established and i think it will last at least as long as its younger brother especially with the future of online gaming and the hard drive add on. Overall 9/10

The X-Box is Microsofts first console and really we are still waiting to see how its goes. In all shops its a clear £100 ahead of the PS2 and for this offers graphical superiority and a few of the add ons that PS2 users are still waitng for. It has a great future with some of the games like Halo which are a joy to play and although ridicualed for Controller and console size the more mature gamer will look past this and see that this could be a brilliant console its just all about what other games it will have to offer over the other consoles. Really only time will tell if Bill gates first dip inot the games industry is a sucess or not.....Graphics areant everything as the origional PS showed Nintendo. Overall 9/10

Lastly the GameCube. I say lastly becuase its not out untill May 3rd but its predicted to be a sucess. Like the X-box it has 4 controller ports almost a must that is the only reason i doubted sonys console for having no 4 controler front but on well .Anyway the GC hasa very promising line up and is going into the online market - it will be something of a battle to see who gets their first. As well as this its the cheapest of the 3 consoles, has some cool games - i know my friend grapo 2002 will go on about super moneky ball which he won for GAD and then shortly after reserved his console! Hopefully ill win a game to go with the proreding of the Cube...hehe. Anyway Nintndo may keep the slighly childesh agmes but we love em and hopefully thell have another Goldeneye classic and some more games that look like super smash melee. Looking good at the moment however time will tell how it stands against the others 8/10

This really i the best time to be a gamer. In my gaming life ive had an Atari, Master System a snes, ps and megadrive but really where as there was only one console worth buying back then now all the consoles are neck and neck and i think it will all come down to games as opposed to technical superiority. So if you dont own a next gen console or evenif you do own one of them they all have greatness to offer and its a real god time to be a gamer. Thanks for reading people

This wasnt a GAD attempt but was much better than all of your feeble attemps of GAD. This was just to inform first console buyers or people thinking about a next gen console so shut it greame

Great post Er-Non (Or Steve).

You really described each console brilliantly. I'm sure it'll help a lot of people.

Personally i'm quite a big Nintendo fan. I try not to biased, i don't judge a console/game if i haven't played it.

I own a GBA and i'm getting a GameCube. Again, great post.
