Is it just me, or does the PSone seem a little odd, particularly being released just before the PS2.
The new features may be great, and it may be smaller, but surely, if someone wanted to buy a Playstation for some reason or another, surely the original will be much cheaper.
Sure it has internet access, but it will be so expensive and slow you might as well by a low-end PC just for the internet. And the LCD screen does not even come with the darn thing.
For me, this machine is for people with more money than sense, or those who have been crossing their fingers, waiting to be able to play the Playstation in bed.
Unless the PSone has some pretty damn good extras, I can't see that it will do anything but flop. Nintendo have already proved that special edition consoles do not work.

I think it's gonna be a great little machine, very portable for the likes of me, as I work away from home and need to travel lite, this could be a god send for me.As I can't afford to use up to much room in my van, not having to take a T.V with me, will be just great!!!!
O.k.....so there ain't no great advance in technology, but I think Sony have got it right, make it small cute and it'll sell. It's already out selling the DC in Japan(only the PS2 did better on it's first month of release) and no doubt it will here. Also, for you fans of the PS,it's good news, as you can expect new game releases for at least a couple of years yet(great news for people that can't afford PS2).And it's not grey(why that bothers so many I just don't know) still it's more white, which happens to be less colourful, as white is a shade and not a colour????uummmmmmm.....and grey is a colour.I think I'd rather have a grey one!!!ARTY

PSone is identical to the 'old' PlayStation as far as hardware goes, except that it's all been miniaturised significantly; any major change would result in compatibility problems.

All of the unused ports and connectors have been removed.

The LCD screen will connect (obviously) to the AV-out socket, and as for power on the move, no doubt it will plug between the power supply and the DC-in socket, in much the same way that the G-Con light gun had a pass-through connector for the video cable.

Sony are supposedly working on a rechargeable battery pack for the machine to make it yet more portable, but it's never going to be *truly* portable unless they come up with some kind of new controller. But with Sony, who knows!

The PS2 backwards compatability allows anti aliasing, but it uses a different chipset to the actual PS2 one. Therefore it can be done. And that was just an example - chips are so easily made these days it needn't be as un-powerful as the original (if that is a word). It should be improved.
As for the car adaptor - I cant see how a fag lighter will be able to power a games console AND an LCD moniter at once. But Sony will probably manage it anyway.

PS A 32 bit system doesnt have enough computational speed to cope with anti alicing of any nature- the PSOne was just meant to be an update of the original and be able to be a bit more portable than the original, so it can be treated as a "portable console"- bit like a portable TV.

Right let me clarify this- the PSOne will have an in car adapter to plug into the cigarette lighter and when the LCD screen and mobile adapter are launched, it will make it a portable device.

If Sony bring out some kind of a battery pack, so the console is portable, it does seem like a good idea. But I still think Sony should have included some simple graphical enhancements, such as hardware anti-aliasing, just to improve it and add incentive.

I think they are pretty much trying to sell it to anyone who's low on cash and hasn't got the console.

As I understand it, the original PSX is not made anymore, and the older they are the more likelyhood of the laser going. The new PSOne isn't that much more, actually I think it's the same price as the original. It's good because it is more portable (although it still requires mains power at the moment) and it's a new playstation rather than a second hand one at a resonable price (debatable I know). The bad points are (in my opinion) that it is still virtually the same hardware with the same problems. It's excellent for new gamers who haven't got the money to get into the current console scene but who want a pretty up-to-date console with lots of games. It's also good for parents of younger children who want a console. I've seen my first PSOne today and I must say that they look kind'a cute. Better looking than the PS2 I think - but that of course is my opinion and may differ from anyone elses on the planet.
