I want to get a multiplayer game for the PS2, and was wondering if anybody had any sugestions?

cool, violence does seem to add to a game though! I used to have Rock the Rink for PSone - that was more like a beat-em up on ice than a Ice hockey game - but boy was it fun!

There issome fighting in NHL but it is only really a novelty - you can have a choice of two punches, there is however ample opportunity to attack each others teams with trips, smashing players into arena walls e.t.c At its heart its really about the game, not the violence (says the person who has disabled another team so much they had about three players left...).

I have and ATV and Smackdown 3 are two of the best games that you can use with it. Both the single player modes are pritty bad on the games but the 4 player fun is amazing.
ATV offers you some huge tracks that are all different with some amazing stunts and graphics that will have you racing for hours, and its especially funny when you crash into each other.
SD 3 is all out mayhem, there is so much going on in the game that you become totally immersed in the game trying to batter your mate with a stick. Hell In a Cell? Sure is.
Oh and Pro Evo is great when you have 2 people to a side.

Well Jame Bond 007 is fun on the multiplayer maps, especially if you liked Goldeneye on the N64. Timesplitters is similar and has its unique style about it with slightly wacky characters, it is an older game but on Platinum - so cheap :) Any of EA sports games are also great, I recommend NHL 2002 if you have the slightest interest in American sports, even if you're not sure of the rules. I bought this with a limited knowledge of the game and found it to be realy fun, especially on multiplayer (up to 8 players if you have the multi taps and willing friends). Others include DOA2, Tekken Tag - both on Platinum.
