No I'm not going to list them all, but come Spring 2003 you'll have a few more options up your sleeve.

Imagine the scenario:

Discussion Topic: OI! SNIPER! Topic Started: Today 4:15pm
"Hey, Sniper, fancy a game of SOCOM: US Navy SEALS?"
"OK"
"Co-op mode?"
"OK, c'ya online!"

Discussion Topic: OI! FM! Topic Started: Today 4:21pm
"What happened?"
"Were those YOUR kneecaps Sniper?"
"Yeah"
"Oops..."

The PS2 could be going online in Europe next year if the rumours are true. Anyone who has played online games with or against their mates before will know exactly how much fun it can be. Look at the dedicated following of games like Unreal Tournament, Counter Strike, Ultima Online, Legend of Mir, Planetarion, Diablo and so on. Each game has its own fanbase, who make up a highly addicted community for each individual game.

Now look at the PS2's possibilities. Imagine:

Metal Gear Solid Online, where you can choose to play either Snake, and make your way past highly intelligent guards (played by your mates), or you can be Snake and your mate can be Raiden, and you can assault the Oil Platform in sneaky co-op mode.

Grand Theft Auto Online, where you and your friends have a whole city in which to race motorbikes, helicopters, buses, tanks, and have death matches using chainsaws vs chainguns, or go on the rampage together to see who can get the most kills before getting flattened by a SWAT team.

Virtua Fighter 5, where you can test out your prowess against anyone in the world, and see your ranking everytime you connect to the online server. How would you REALLY fare against the Japanese with just button-bashing?

Pro Evolution Soccer 3, late night matchups between the forum users and the SR Team could become a reality. Perhaps they could even let you custom build your own team and take it into a National League system, playing everyone in the country, with European and World Cup tournaments as well.

A host of other developers may get in on the act, so titles like Timesplitters, Red Faction, Wipeout, Burnout, Medal of Honor, Conflict: Desert Storm and so on may all appear with 'online functionality' as SEGA called it.

With most current PS2 releases having their own 'Official Websites and Forums', it should be easy to get a game with or against anyone anytime, day or night, anywhere in the world, once the online versions of games start arriving.

Hopefully we'll see Final Fantasy XI released in Europe as well as many more RPGs that are just crying out for online features like the Baldur's Gate series.

The biggest difference you'll probably notice is that we can now all stay in touch, even when we're not using the forums. Because at the moment after we leave here to go play Burnout or Devil May Cry, that's the last we'll hear of each other until we start posting again. With the PS2 online, it's yet another way for people to stay in touch, even if it is only to blow each other's legs off with a shotgun for 'fun'.

In other words, online gaming with consoles could be GREAT fun. With the wealth of great titles coming out for the PS2 and the quality of developers working for it, we could be seeing a giant leap for gaming, whereas SEGA started it off with just one small step on the Dreamcast.

That for me, would be one the single greatest achievment on the PS2 in this online thing ever. If they got someone to manage that right it could really take of, and have annual events and so on. Heres hoping.

Could be a bit boring for the defenders, though, especially if the attackers and mid-fielders are really efficient at getting the ball. And the goalie would probably have to use a completely different control system to everyone else. It'd probably end up with bitter defenders trying to do heroic full-length runs and blasting it in the top corner.

If it could work it would be dead good. Bagsy not being the defender though.....

GTA online would rule!
Crusing 'round in Biker Gangs with your mates beating up cops with knuckle-dusters and katanas. It'd be the best game ever.

I'd love to see an online footie game - each person controlling a player themselves. Imagine the things you could do (I can't be bothered : ))

The GTA Online would rock.
I want an Online LMA, where you enter into a league with up to 20 other people and it features one match every 2 days, which can be played out when the two people in the match want.
