This morning, all the UK news channels decided that, for once, they'd report US/Alliance troops coming under heavy fire in the Khost region of Afghanistan. Any watcher of CNN / Fox, knows that this is a regular occurence, but all of a sudden our "boys" are going in so they decide its worth reporting this time.
An emergency commons debate has been called today as well, by the Conservatives, to discuss deployment of 45 Commando, and I'll bet any money that many politicians are going to argue that those troops should never be there. Cowards, all of them. Leaving aside the issues of who/what should be in Afghanistan and why, it shuld be remembered that these troops, and many thousands more, are willing to give years of their life to go anywhere they are sent to and defend the interests of this country. Its about time we gave these people a little bit more support, rather than bemoaning about everything they do. It's not the military who starts wars, it's the politicians, remember that !
On the subjct of whether Britian should be sending troops, I believe we should. We've expressed support for Enduring Freedom from day one, and that should continue indefinitely because for once, there are no grey areas in this new war, you're either with freedom or the terrorists - I don't think there is any middle ground for once.
Did anyone see the

No offence to you Tetchy - this is a good point afterall - but the tabloid press have a knock of getting completely the wrong story. America does not "want" to launch nuclear weapons at these countries, the DOD has simply drawn up contingency plans to attack those countries in the case of "exceptional military events" of a first strike on the USA or her main allies. Every nuclear power in the world has such contingencies, they just don't make them public !!
Meka, I think that terrorism is black and white. In Chechenya rebel have been launching attack on Russia itself for many years before Russian troops entered the province. The rebels want an autonomous country and are prepared to kill for it. That makes them terrorists just like the Real IRA. Russia did start its own war on terror many years back, it did the best it could with what it had and the West ignored the problem because, well it was the russians.....and we hadn't really gotten it into our heads that the Cold War really had ended. In Israel, again it is clear really. Both sides want territory and are prepared to use violence to get that objective, in different ways. Israel favour conventional military forces and tries to target what it believes are terrorists, whereas the Palestinians, as demonstrated today with the bus bomb, quite clearly target civilians when at all possible. both sides are partly to blame for the situation today, but in my eyes the side that aims to kill civilians, no matter the reason, are the terrorists, that would be the Palestinians.

For instance, didn't Russia say that Enduring Freedom was a great ideal, and what they had been doing in Chechnya (sp?) was all about putting a stop to terrorism?
Can't the Palestinians and Israelites use the same reasons for attacks on each other, when there are clearly other issues?
