Unless you happen to have heard about it I doubt you will have any idea what the title means. No, it isn't some snazzy slogan title I put in to grab peoples' attention. It is not a scientific breakthrough which allows fire to be carried in bottles what I am talking about is the doom of controllers.

Everyone is talking about virtual reality being the new tommorrow and everything and being more natural to control characters. Liquid Fire isn't quite VR as there are no headsets and you still see the action on a screen. But this doesn't stop it from being the most revolutionary gaming advance for a year or two. Liquid Fire is a new system currently in development by Sony which will allow players to control the onscreen action using their limbs.

I am not quite sure whether it is a separate console or whether it is an extra plug-in for PS2 ( or PS3) but one thing is fore sure: It is going to be great. Of course there is the teeny matter of price. I do not work for Sony or anything but my estimate is about £250 or perhaps more as I imagine that it won't be inexpensive to make each one of these systems.

If there were any downsides at all ( which I'm sure will not hamper its sales too much) it would have to be the exercise and physical exertion most of these games would cause. Sure it would be great for fatsos ( no offence) to exercise and lose some of that extra flab whilst still enjoying the experience of a great game ( well depending on what game he was playing) I am certainly going to buy it when it comes out as I hate the design of controllers.

It is of course your choice as to whether you are going to buy this new craze ( well, when it comes out anyway) but if I may say you are mad if you do not take absolutely every opportunity to gain extra money to buy this wonderous hardware. I'm afraid that it is only coming out on Sony's consoles so, you will not be able to enjoy this if you have a Gamecube or Xbox. But hey, things may look up for the non-PS2 playing customers. Perhaps proper VR will finally poke its head around the corner sometime soon.

I hope you have enjoyed this post on futurised gaming ( Liquid Fire)

Yours sincerely

I saw a Liquid Fire system at the Game On exhibition in London, and it is pretty remarkable. It was set-up so that you saw yourself on the screen appearing alongside a little ball which you could bat around by waving your hand in the air.

From what I could see it was running off a normal PS2 (with some sort of adapter fitted to the top of the screen). Of course I'm sure it's still a long way off making a whole game around, and whether the game would have much substance is something we'll just have to wait for.
