In a split second, it was finished. For what felt like hours but was only seconds, her mind didn’t seem to realise what had happened. She couldn’t contemplate it, not after everything she’d gone through. After all the pain and suffering, surely she’d finally found happiness? But in the end, as it always does, reality won her over. She screamed, releasing a multitude of emotions all at once; anger, fear and sadness all playing their sordid part.

She stared at her husband’s killer, tears streaming down her face. “GO ON THEN! FINISH ME OFF TOO!” She shrieked, before walking toward him with a purpose.

The killer, who was almost as surprised as she was about what had just happened, panicked and ran out the front door, slamming it behind him. She considered chasing him, before the tumultuous experience she had gone through came over her, and she fell to her knees and cried in anguish. After a couple of minutes she wiped her eyes, and in what was the most painful moment of her life, directed her eyes toward her husband’s lifeless body. He lay on his back, and looked strangely calm.

She could bare it no longer, and staggered into the kitchen where she collapsed in a heap, sadness overwhelming her. She could have lain there forever, for it would surely be better than the life she faced from now on, because without him, she was nothing. She tried to think about how she could carry on, about how she could get through yet another tough situation, another tragedy, in what was a life of nothing but the latter.

But what was the point? In the end, her only cause would be to make the next time even more painful.

As this thought entered her frail mind, she suddenly became calm. For the first time in her life, she knew what to do next…and although it didn’t bring a rare smile to her pain-ridden face, she was possibly the happiest she’d ever been in her life.

She stood, and yet her legs didn’t wobble. Her hands did not shake, and her head did not hurt. She purposefully made her way toward the cupboard, opened it, and took hold of the pills that would soon kill her.

The pills were soon gone, and she knew she only had a little time left. She made her way to the kitchen door, and then stopped for a moment, leaning against the wall. And then she smiled.

She entered the lounge once again, where the first good thing that had ever happened in her life, lay dead. Blood seemed to be everywhere, but she didn’t care. She shuffled over to him, took his right arm, and stretched it out across the carpet. She then lay next to him, and put the arm around her as though he were hugging her. She leant into the arm, and wept silently, before finally falling into the comforting departure from reality that was sleep, never to see the light of day again.

And she was happy.

I also couldn't be bothered to read it, and I am also sure it was absolutely excellent. Probably deserves a GAD.

Well done Ant!
