I don't intend to get a PS2 for a couple of reasons, firstly I have no money to spare. Secondly I wasn't a fan of many of the games on the original system. However, from reading your comments on this forum, it's quite obvious that there are many people that are quite excited by the release of the PS2, and will hopefully get some enjoyment out of it.
But what I really wanted to say is that I think that the whole pre order system was really cruel. Look at the way you guys got wound up, and they can't even guarentee that you'll get it on launch day. I'm sure that they are only releasing so few units for the simple reason that demand creates demand. A clever marketing principal, but very cruel to you guys!
Anyway, I hope you all get one soon after the launch, and may it be just what you hope for. (All of the panic has amused and entertained me y'see!)

Hey I sympathise with you on the whole house buying thing.

I was looking into buying on recently but the prices are astronomical at the moment. I have delayed the whole thing until the middle of next year when (hopefully) I will have more money.

I cant say that my wife is too enamoured with the idea of me spending loads of money on a PS2 but I better do it now as when I do get a mortgage I will be lucky if I can buy a game every 4 months!!!

I am not a huge RPG fan so this is not such a consideration for me although I will probably give the next Final Fantasy a whirl on my PS2. I am more interested in game like TTT, Onimusha, SSX, GT2000 etc.

I wont buy a GameCube unless they produce something on it that is a real must have (like Metal Gear Solid was for the PS, it made everyone who did not have a PS wish they did).

I agree with you on the X-Box. I hate the idea of Microsoft trying to monopolise the games market like they have the OS market. In my ideal world Bill Gates would have a change of heart and dump the whole idea.

I must admit however that as a dedicated gamer if it had some really awesome games that the PS2 could not come close too, then I would probably buy one. I cant see this happening though, and they would have to be pretty amazing to convince me to give any money to Monopolysoft.

Well before I got married and moved away from my parents I shared an N64 with my brother. I was disappointed however with the lack of RPG's on this system, but did think that there were several good games, though they were mostly the ones produced by Nintendo and Rare. I wouldn't mind getting hold of a cheap Playstation now, just so that I can play Crono Cross (I was a big fan of Crono Trigger on the SNES), and other RPG's. As far as the next generation consoles go, I'm not likely to have much spare cash in a great hurry. (Saving for a deposit on a house) so I'll be trying to win all of them on various competition sites!
As it happens I like the Dreamcast, and wouldn't mind getting hold of one. I'm not too sure about the PS2 yet, but if it gets a decent stock of games behind it, I'd give it a go. My brother will probably get a Gamecube, so I won't miss out there. I'm not too sure about the X-Box though. I dislike Bill Gates and would like to see it fail, but if it's any good it wouldn't stop me from eventually getting one!

bjlangley, Thank you for being adult enough to not feel that you needed to insult either the PS2 or all of us over the top PS2 fans, just because you dont want one yourself.

I personally thought alot of the games on the PS1 were very good but I could not play them much as I did not have a PS1 (had to play my mates). I was a student at the time and made the mistake of buying an N64 on the strength of one title (Goldeneye of course!!). Due to my limited finances I could not afford a PS as well so I had to suffer.

Now I am a worker and have a little bit of spare money I can just about stretch to the PS2. As soon as I heard it was due for release in Japan (I heard rumours last October) then I went and pre-ordered it. I was determined not to miss out this time!!

Are you going to buy any of the upcoming systems?? What sort of games do you like??

Congratulations on an intelligent post.
