Everyone's been moaning about how the money earnt by proffesional footballers is getting out of hand. And it's not just happening in this country, big wage packets are being handed out to top players on a weekly basis in Europe and other parts of the world aswell!
It's no secret that footballers are probably the biggest earners in the country, and that it is a job that anyone would love to have!

Up untill recently, no player worldwide is currently under a contract that entitles him to an incredible £100,000 52 weeks a year. But thanks to the big-spenders Manchester United, firey Irish international and captain Roy Keane has apparently become the first player to break the deadlock.
David Beckham is also in negotiations over a new high-paying contract, which could also see him with a similar amount of money to throw around, if not more!
To me, it seems that footballers' money is now getting out of hand, and nothing will stop the bigger starts of the likes of Zidane from wanting to rob Keane of his crown!
Could this be the start of the end of 'football' as we know it???? :S

First of all, why do footballers get payed so much for kicking a ball around for 90 minutes a week????
This question has been asked by many and has to rank up there with 'Which came first, the chicken or the egg??' for the most un-explainable answer!
I very much doubt that this has been pondered since the dawn of time, but i'm certain it will go on untill the Earth says goodbye.

Is it because footballers do great things for our country???
Very unlikely! It seems that every time we're in the World Cup finals our fans just destroy the towns and villages abroad! And many cases of hooliganism and crime can begin at a Saturday afternoon football match.
All footballers do for our country is show that we can compete with others in one area of sport, but not succeed at the top since 1966. And on the domestic level, it seems that foreigners are doing all our work for us!
To be payed such vast amounts of money you really have to work hard for and earn it! The average wage of a footballer in England is probably at least 20 grand a week now!

As a Prime Minister you only get around £3000 a week, and that's petty cash for the players of today, even 18 year olds are earning at least twice as much!! So the Prime Minister, who actually does something important for our country gets payed a lot less while doing a lot more harder work. It just doesn't make sense!!
Brain Surgeons are another good example, as it is the highest earning form of employment in this country, besides being a footballer! But £5000 is still something laughed at by the young and wasted by the more experienced.
Again it doesn't make any sense! Why should someone who helps and saves lives have to live slightly more in-seccurely than one the the Premierships' finest????

I think that if things carry on the way they're going, every single footballer will be completely obsessed and focussed on how much they're earning, rather than what they're doing on the pitch - even more so than now!!
Money is something that could ruin football permanently, like it does with many businesses. Smaller clubs can barely afford £10,000 a week as a basic fee right now! Imagine how they could suffer in the future when their rising stars will be expecting £50k as soon as they're out of the youth team!! It's all a load of madness! And giving players several grand more for every goal they score, or match they win is even worse!!
'Prima-Donas' used to be a rareity in the modern game, but now I fear it will effect evey club! In several places!!

If anything should be done, limits should be put up as to how much one player can earn from even the biggest club in the world. I think no-one needs more than £10,000 a week, and that should be an international limit.
If players don't like that then they can get extra cash from individual player bonuses, no more than £500.
But it still would be an impossible task to get them to agree to this. Think if how much they'd be loosing!
But with less spent on players, more could go to the clubs, giving them much better facillities nearer to Premiership standard! Who knows... Maybe with a system like this the FA could easily save more than enough to build TWO of the new proposed and failed Wembley Stadium ideas!!
But only if....

So footballers earn way more than they should for having fun once or twice a week!
I wish I can earn money when i'm having fun!
I wish I was a footballer....

Kanu is the only football player that deserves, this big amount. After recovering from a potential deadly heart problem, he started a charity, which send children from Africa on an airplane to England for treatment on medical problems. Two years ago he won the Fifa's Fair Play Award, by paying for 10 Nigerian Children to be flown to England for life saving operations.

He started this charity out of his own money and has put thousands of pounds in this charity. He has just announced a dinner, when Fans (You and me)pay £200 - 300 pounds per person to sit on a table with a particular football celebrity, like Henry, Kanu, Campbell, Wenger, Viera, and other footballers from other clubs.

He hopes to raise enough money to pay for more and more trips for children to have top quality treatment in England.

I hope he makes a packet and is able to put millions into helping more and more children. Well Done Kanu.

I wish more footballers were like you.

There is talk about placing a salary cap on teams now, for the total they can spend on player wages.

Unfortunately, one of the probable consequences of this will be to drive players out of the country to areas where they can earn much more. And can you blame them? Unless the same rules are imposed internationally, salary caps seem certain to reduce the amount of talent, particularly foreign talent, in england's domestic leagues.

Another likely effect, as seen in the NBA, where salary caps are currently implemented, will mean that the top players will take huge pieces of salary space, leaving very little for the minor players - that said, it does also encourage top players to spread throughout the league's teams, balancing teams' overall quality, though no other league can match the NBA's pay-cheques, which keeps players in the country.

Ok, but Keane was first in the Premiership, and Italy always splash their cash way too much!
And it's also not everyday that someone signs a contract worth such a vast amount of money!

Actually, Batistuta has been on £116,000 a week for quite a while now.
