When I was a young boy, I frequently visited the local arcade, where I spent a lot of money playing my favorite games. One game in particular. Sega Rally, it was called.
Within a few months I heard of a fabulous new invention called a "Sega Saturn"... And, much to my delight, the game which I had fallen in love with, was to be released on this newfangled machinery. So, at first chance, I bought one.
And played it 'till my fingers bled... Was the summer of sixtynine... Or mayhaps a bit later. But I loved this machine and I loved Sega Rally. Often I would continue playing this game once my eyes had closed and my mind was in Dreamland...
Then one dark and stormy night my house was hit by lightning and my poor, poor Saturn had a bit of a burnout. Started smoking, actually. I was utterly devastated. Cried my little eyes out for weeks on end. Because my rally days were gone.
But life goes on, and after some time I heard a rumour. Sweet voices were speaking of a sequel. I rushed to my arcade and saw this amazing release. Smooth graphics and a strong feeling of power. But the line at the machine went on forever and I never got to try it. Had to go to work, you know.
But then, my life was changed. The Sega Dreamcast was born, and I fell in love once again. Bought that sleek off-white machine, brought it home and popped in Sega Rally 2.
But to make a long story short,if possible, I recently purchased an old Sega Saturn, dusted off my Sega Rally and played it like never before...
For you see, Sega Rally was my reason for buying the Saturn, and Sega Rally was my reason for buying the Dreamcast. But the Saturn version still has a hold on me.
And the moral is:
Just because it's newer, it doesn't mean it's better... Look at me and your aunt, children. She's older than me, but I tell better stories...
By the by, I still love my Dreamcast but that's because of other games.
Sleep tight, my children, and don't let the bedbugs bite.
Donkey Kong 64 was quite a dissapointment i must say, so perhaps the theory is true! But then i remember Spooky Castle for the Commodore64 and i am reasured that new games are usually much better than the classics. (Still like Dungeon Keeper though, want to see a third one!)
