To begin with, you might want to know that I originally paid £300 for my Playstation, all those 6 years ago, I believe and I found it a great experience. It was the time when Sega were never heard of anymore, and Sony just came out with game after game after game. Each one, graphically more superior then the one before and it's probably fair to say that some of the great games have appeared on the PlayStation.
Then, times moved on, and so did technology and it was only a matter of time before Sony had to released something. Please enter the PS2. There were lots of mixed opinions to begin with as to whether or not it was really worth £300. The same is happening with the XBox, as I type this. Why spend £300 on a console? I mean, think about it for a moment. £300 isn't just casual change, it's a hell of a lot of money.
After a long time of waiting, Sony then went into hyper drive and after the much needed release of Grand Theft Auto 3, people have been swarming in the shops to get their greasy mits on a this machine.
It's really got 3 games that interest me more then anything. GTA3, Pro Evo Soccer and of course, the one and only MGS2. In my opinion, it's perhaps worth buying the console just for MGS2 (even though I'm yet to play on it), as the first one; no matter how much you play on it, is always superior.
ISS Pro Evolution Soccer. The game that had me hooked for months and months on end and I actually played on it so much that when it came to February - a year after it was released and ISS Pro Evolution Soccer 2 was out - I was still playing on it. Without a doubt, Konami are the gods of football games and their Pro Soccer series shows this.
So far, I've been talking about how superior the PS2 is. So, I've somehow got to fit XBox into this, as otherwise, it would be no fun .
The worlds most powerful console.
8GB Hard drive
More games designers then anyone
All sounds like a dream come true, until you look at it's price tag of £300. That's the thing that has to put you off. As soon as the price drop by Sony was announced, everyone wanted their PS2 for XMas. Now that the GameCube is coming out in only a matter of months, everyone is either gonna get one of them, or have no money left due to their love of the PS2.
So, how really can XBox can compete? Is there really any point in wasting £100 more, on the worlds most powerful console, just so I can say I've got one and by unique? I'm saying this in a PS2 forum, so I can already tell what you're gonna say, but please, shed some light on me and let me see more then 3 reasons as to why I should get a PS2.
Sony isnt stupid, the PS3 (or its equivalent) will be on its way and Sony will probably make the games backwards compatible as well. Sure X box has fancy graphics on a few titles but to me, GT3 beats PGR and costs at least £22 less....

No one would read it because no one goes in ther.
I think PS2 sounds more reasonable and likely. Wonder what would happen if I posted this same topic in the XBox forum.
> I went for the PS2 because there was nothing else,
true i did the same exactly 51 weeks ago :-) march 25th i got my PS2
U are spoilt for choice, i would wait a few months.
Firstly, the price. PS2: £200 X-box: £300, thats a £100 difference which is a hell of a lot, and you get more for your money i believe with the PS2. Not only do you get a next gen console but you also have the ability to play all your PS1 games on the machine and not to mention the built in DVD drive so you can play all your films on it too without spending anymore money. CD's ect all work on it and you can even record using your mini disk on it. Like the X-box, soon you will be able to get a hard drive and modem for it, there sold seperatly but should not cost you all that much when they do come out, and as yet no one really knows whether online play with consoles is going to even take off yet, so they may be an undeeded thing. But as you can see, there is a bug price difference, £100 could get you the 3 games you want straight away, and with the PS2 games selling for cheaper than the X-box ones, you save yet more money.
As for the games themselves, the ones that you want are all superb games, and ones that will last you for some time with them all having great reply value. But there are other great games that are out too, DMC and Silent Hill 2 spring to mind, and then there is the likes of games such as FF 10 in the near future. The PS2 has already been out for over a year and so has a much bigger amount of games for you to choose from, and we are just about to enter the period where the truly good games are about to be released, where as the X-box has only just come out, and its best titles are some way off. The difference in specs means that the X-box does have slightly better graphics, but there not as huge as some people make out so that arguement is not the best to make a decision on.
You say that you owned a PS1, so you know what the style of games are like with the Sony consoles and if you liked them, you will likes the games that come on the PS2. it has been said that game wise the X-box has a very similar style to that of the PS2, and so if this is the case, then for the sake of some very slightly less impressive graphics is it not better to get a PS2 and save £100.
I choose the PS2 as it had the game styles that i wanted, some may see it as the sequel station, but i dont, if it has many sequels to old games, and if they are always being bettered then i see nothing wrong with that. but the fact is that there are some very good original games that are coming out and some that already are out. It all comes down to your taste, and how much money you want to spend on a console with the only real difference between the too is slightly the graphics.
There are some very good games coming out for the PS2 this year, and ones that im sure you will like.
(typed that quite fast as im trying to do some coursework, so if there are any mistakes im sorry :D)
I would wait a few months and see how all the new consals fair,
The xbox WILL be getting versions of all the games u mentioned.
The GC will be the cheapest at a mere £150.
By then u might be able to get a modem and hardrive bundle for ps2 (thats a reason to get one).
the main thing that would persuade me to get a ps2 at the moment (if i did'nt have one) is Final Fantasy X.
