So there we have it Dringo will get the childrens handheld device Pokemon mini on his birthday, June 4th for those who want to give it to him for free. But that paled in comparision to what else happened Pokemon-wise today.
Whilst Mario and Metroid are set for this year as the Gamecube AAAA title (yes there was 4 A's) on the Gameboy the next Pokemon game, featuring 350 + pokemon have revealed some screenshots. The game doesn't look as good as golden sun. But it has managed to look great and keep with the Pokemon style looking fab as always with some nice touches such as footprints in the sand and reflections in the water. i am generally looking forward to this, but how long can Nintendo keep changing the map and adding 100 pokemon? Well that is actually a big change, more pokemon adds a huge challenge to the game, you all knew how long it took to get 150 now imagine 352 or so! Also the new map, the new adventures etc... are what most people expect from sequels.
But the fact is when it comes to Nintendo i don't expect them to keep doing that. Sooner or later Nintendo will need to do something, upgrading to 3D would be an awsome step for Pokemon. Now I don't expect Nintendo to release a Gamecube version for the simple reason that if the Gamecube gets Pokemon then there is no exclusive AAA title on the GBA. But 3D gameplay will add a whole new element. A few other things that even this title might use is the E-card reader for downloading small pieces of information. But how effective would the E-card reader be? Would it just be a nice clever touch like the internet link for Pokemon crystal?
Unfortunatly Nintendo can't afford to be to drastic, completley making a new map and adding 100 monsters each time along with graphical updates and a few new gameplay elements takes a while, unlike FIFA it takes much longer than a year to make on of these, Pokemon Gold and Silver appeared 4 years after Red and Blue (not in this country mind) and this game due the end of this year would have spent 3 years. So what is next for Pokemon, will it be one of the best 2D games changing into the best 3D game ala Mario, Will it have a shock change maybe into a more adult version opposite to Zelda's approach. Or maybe something different. Personally I believe Pokemon is Nintendo's title for the Internet, they did it with Crystal, they will probably do it with the GBA and imagine a Pokemon game in the style of Phantasy Star Online on the Gamecube! Hardly imaginable and remember Phantasy star games were never always online.
Pokemon would be a good choice for Nintendo as an online game as it is such as storming RPG and Nintendo's best! And if that isn't reason enough to warrent its online appearence surly its name is. You can just imagine Pokemonline or Pokemonet it was as if the name was made for website connectivity. Imagine wondering through Pallet town and batteling trainers who are real rather than computer controlled without the need of a special stadium and link up centre. Whilst playing the game you don't fight trainers who are put there you fight people who are trying to dot he same as you in a massive 3D world... that would be awsome!!!!!!!
So I believe Pokemon's future lies with the internet, what about you?
Dringo.
