Ever since it's birth into the gaming world, the PC has grown and grown as a gaming mahine - which was not the original intentions of it's use. Many of the games we've played and enjoyed on the PC, ranging from Monkey Island to The Sims have always been exclusive to the PC, and only available for PC gamers to enjoy - until now!!
Yes, it looks as if we console gamers will soon be able to enjoy many of those forth-coming PC greats on our next-generation consoles!
Not only will many of these games be available on the X-box, but GameCube and PS2 owners can also expect a few surprises!
And with all these great games coming onto both PC and X-box, the descision will be tighter for people experiencing problems deciding on wether to get a PC or an X-box.
But as these same games could be available on either the Cube or PS2, people may also be wondering wether or not Microsoft IS actually the answer to their gaming needs.
So what PC games might we be seeing in console form???
Well, for starters, X-box gamers will have the only chances of playing the Championship Manager series from no.4 onwards, as an alternative source to the PC. The X-box does get the biggest share of PC games, but it's the only console that will recieve Microsoft games from the PC.
Half-Life and several other top FPS's like Red Faction are already available as PS2 ports from the PC, and it's also quite likely that we may also see more top on-line shooters reach us in the future.
But as for the GameCube, it looks as if their won't be too many PC game ports, possibly due to it's 'kiddy image'.
But then again, if you're a Nintendo fan and you believe all rumours, then you could be in for a massive treat!
It appears that the no.1 PC game to-date could also be making appearences on the GameCube and PS2, aswell as the X-box!! Yes, of course i'm talking about 'Medal of Honour: Allied Assault'!
The PS2 move is likely as the Sony console also has the power of several other games in the Medal of Honour series to attract attention. The X-box - being a Microsoft machine - undoubtabley has the best chance to get this game, and Nintendo may feel they'll need the services of Allied Assault to help dent their 'kiddy image' even more, and attract more gamers from the likes of the PS2.
Incase you didn't know, GTA3 will also be appearing on the X-box. Untill now, anti-PS2 gamers would have to shell-out a fork-load of money to get a decent PC so they could experience this game in it's full glory. But now the X-box offers another option, but at a slightly higher price.
Hey, at least it's another option for a console game, which is just what we all want to see!
Rumours have also been flying around that the no.1 PS2 game will make a big impact on the tiny GameCube, but nothing has been confirmed or announced.
With ports to one or two consoles, rumours can easily be started about the game appearing on the one that's been left out. And some are just rumours. Others....
So what am I getting at by all this??
Well, it looks like that thanks to good old MS, many of our most-wanted PC titles could be on their way to a console near you - available for the way you want to play them, console style!
Where would the future of gaming be without Bill Gates!??
I think that Halo is a big reason for many people to buy an X-box, even of they have/are getting a Cube or PS2, like you said, it just can't be found anywhere else.
I think that if it is to appear on any other format it will be the PC rather than PS2 or GameCube, and i'm also very surprised to see that Microsoft haven't taken the highly-succesfull keyboard+mouse system onto the X-box! Especially if it is to be an on-line machine, with top FPS's like Halo!
I've also had another thought that I could've added in my orginal post....
If all the best PC games will be appearing on other formats, and as long as the on-line consoles DO take up on the keyboard+mouse thing, then could this finally mean that the PC does go back to an old office machine????
But it's still pretty unlikely, as there are still many PC gamers out there, and they won't just simply buy an X-box because it's also from MS.
Another problem Microsoft's console and indeed all consoles will have when faced with the PC is their inability to do good Strategy and Flight/Space Combat Sims. Consoles just don't have good enough control systems to match the keyboard and mouse combo of the PC or indeed the joystick and keyboard combo (preferred for flight sims). Then there is also the tendency of console games to lack the length and depth of those on the PC, which is mainly an issue in the ever growing RPG scene. The PC will have Neverwinter Nights by the end of this year (probably) and if it's anything like it's hoped to be then it should dominate the RPG scene on all formats for quite a long time. Of course consoles have their own advantages, for example, the PC has never really been able to support a decent fighting game. The PC has also never had anything resembling a good platform game, so if you happen to favour the likes of Virtua Fighter and Mario (games so similar) then the PC will have very little attraction. As for depth and length of games, well the consoles have been churning out a lot of titles which keep the player enticed for a long time. Even if they never make games which last as long as or pull you in as much as the Baldur's Gate series they do have games such as GTA3 which have great lastability owing to the fact they are never really completed and can always be fun to pick up and play. When it comes down to choice, you will generally get more on the PC owing to it's wealth of developers but consoles can provide some marvellous unique games of their own.
Microsoft are strongly involved in both PC and now console development. The question is, will they continue to provide varying quality software for the PC or will their new console become a higher priority?
Oh god my MSN has just funned up!
Microsoft's X-Box will no doubtadly have loads of classic PC titles along with hits like Jet Set Radio Future and Halo.
This will mean X-Box will have a huge range of brilliant FPS's from the PC. Whether it may be Return to Castle Wolfenstein or the brilliant Unreal Tournament, PC FPS's have always been brilliant and on the X-Box should be no different.
Also something came to mind. If Microsoft get PC titles onto their X-Box, why not have halo on our PC? It'd be great for people like Stryke who love Halo. Personally i think it looks great but i wouldn't buy an X-Box just for it.
Honestly though, i don't think Nintendo will get many PC ports, especially not MOH:AA. You say things about it's 'Kiddy image', but only people who prefere Sony normally stereotype Nintendo like that.
