Lets start with the next gen. Consoles…
PS2:
With its puny custom 128mb ‘emotion engine’, 32mb RAM, DVD drive and USB ports The playstation is really a poor excuse for a machine it also has pathetic games like the ‘grand theft auto’ series the ‘gran turismo’ series and lest we forget the highly unsuccessful ‘Tekken’ series these games surely will destroy today’s market.
Gamecube:
Here it is finally nintendo have released their new console after being worked on for years under the name ‘dolphin’ they have called it ‘Gamecube’ and with its 405mhz ‘Gekko’ processor, minute size, portable add on screen and forthcoming modem add on we really can scoff at this ‘next gen.’ console similar to the PS2 It also has crummy games mostly cartoon based platforms such as Mario e.t.c.
Xbox:
Oh lordy lordy lordy its finally here Microsoft’s wonder console with a massive 733mhz processor a gigantic 8gb hard drive a massive 256 audio channels and last but not least a custom designed 250mhz graphics chip worked on by Nvida. The games are great all of them no exceptions and uh Xbox’ can turn into a bird when you aren’t using it yea there you go.
Yours sincerely
Bill gates (nothing to do with Microsoft of course *looks shifty then runs*)
OR…
Dreamcast:
I didn’t put this one in before but upon a second thought I realised that it did deserve to be here after all it was the first next gen. Console, with online capabilities and great games like ‘Soul Calibur’ it really is a shame that such an advanced machine never took off. I never did own one but even now I can see advantages with the most prominent being the sheer price of the console, games and peripherals they are so cheap why you couldn’t get cheaper.
PS2:
A sure fire hit the PS2 roared onto our carpets, desks and cupboards in grand style with massive launch titles like Gran Turismo 3 to entertain and amaze us, the sheer graphical output was astonishing it was always guaranteed success due in main to the PSX which was probably the most monumental console ever. Even now though the sales are going strong and there is even a good chance it will get the Christmas best seller spot.
Gamecube:
After months of rumours and shrouded secrecy on Nintendo’s part they finally told the world that their new console would not be called the ‘dolphin’ as was once planned it would be called ‘Gamecube’ soon after information started to be released at an alarming rate and now its here with its custom built 405mhz Gekko processor it is a powerful and now with ‘Super Mario sunshine’ at last released which on its own is a credit to Nintendo this is a darn good console.
Xbox:
Despite What the press say the Xbox is actually a really good console with mindblowing visual and audio effects and the backing of over 150 major games companys I’m sure will help Xbox on its way to glory. From the moment you turn on you see the power from the little whirring noise to the beauty of dead or alive it is astounding.
So there it is I cant tell you what to get because in my mind they are all exceptional consoles with their own pros and cons what you go for, whether it be the Graphics of Xbox, size of Gamecube or popularity of PS2 I have little doubt that you will ,happily tell everyone that you picked the best console so I leave it to you to choose your Christmas present.

Both PS2 and GC have more co-processors inside them to share the work load, whereas with XBox, the main CPU has to do most of the work on it's own. If you can share the work load, the overall performance will be better.
I know the DVD drive on PS2 and XBox are both the same speed (4x I think). Games which keep reading from disc wont get any head start on XBox over PS2. The data is is taken from disc at the same speed. Only once it gets into the rest of the machine, do things change. The Xbox hard disc is a good idea - it can hold some of the data for fast pick up, whereas reading from DVD would be slower. But not all XBox games use the hard disc.
