Suprise, Suprise, each one said the console they were using was the best because it had the best graphics.
Then Liaso (sp?) did a quick round up of the consoles:
X-box:
Price: £299
Best Game: Halo
Advantages: Best Graphics
Disadvantages: Big and bulky
Playstation 2:
Price: £199
Best Game: Metal Gear Solid 2
Advantages: Loads of games
Disadvantages: Not as good graphics
GameCube:
Price: £150-£170
Best Game: Luigi's Mansion
Advantages: Cheap and Portable
Disadvantages: No DVD
What a load of tripe! (except the prices ofcourse)
Ok, the X-box's best game may be Halo at the moment, not that I've had the chance to play that game, however you can't really say it has the best graphics unless a game has been ported with the exact same code to all three systems. Ofcourse some games will look better than others, but it doesn't mean that will be the case all the way through a console's life. How is the fact that it's big and bulky a major disadvantage though? It's not as if you'll be taking it to school, or on a bus to school is it? If you want portable gaming than your best bet is the Game Boy Advance.
With the Playstation 2 they say the best game is Metal Gear Solid 2. I wonder if they got that girl to play every single PS2 game to find that out? I severely doubt it! Metal Gear Solid may be a brilliant game (again I haven't played it yet), but it's a new release and is bound to be percieved as the best game until it's hype has died down a little. I'm sure there is another game around somewhere in the Playstation 2's large back-catalogue of games which could beat it.
And the GameCube's advantage being it small and portable? Well, ok it is small, but how does that advantage gamers other than there's a little extra space to put something next to it under your television? Portable isn't the best advantage either. Where do you keep the controllers or any other accessories when you're carrying the GameCube by it's handle? And what about becomming prey to drug-dealers who'll be able to sell your GameCube for drug-money after they've ran off with it? At least with the Playstation 2 and X-box they'd have to use both hands to carry it when running away. Again they've got it all wrong in the disadvantage: No DVD. It's a good thing that it has no DVD! It means we have more power concentrated on gameplay than on running a parallel DVD system (which costs extra on the X-box) using up some of the consoles power.
Notice how in the report, no two kids said the same console was the best. They all said the console they were playing was the better, which makes me wonder if they really did play on each others' consoles?
Lets just say that was a typically biased report, but I'm glad to say the Newsround website at the normal Beeb address is a lot more professional when it comes to short reviews of the consoles.
Yes they were biased, but what can you expect when news people are choosing and not gamers!
And can you believe the size of the GameCube!!
I thought it would be small but it looked tiny!! And it still looked tiny as a little kid was holding it!
The X-box didn't look all that big, and the PS2 looked smaller than I thought. Maybe it was cuz I couldn't see the thcikness of the X-box?
That's why shows that don't specialise in game reviews or gameing topics should leave it to the people who know a thing or two.
> Newsround is targeted at youngsters anyway isnt it? What else would you expect?
That's true, but it comes to something when these programs make the mistake of being clearly patronising, even to youngsters.
Plus they always use useless adjectives like 'cool' and 'wicked', which quite frankly, mean nothing
