Now if I was one of those bright sparks at Nintendo, know what I would be thinking? Merchandise. They did it with Pokemon, the cards, the keyrings, the games, the books, the cartoons, the videos. So what will be next? Collecting little anime creatures is fine, what about robots? Cars? More furry beasties? Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo were in this kind of territory, but the merchandising is limited to cars, and these are already available. If I were at Nintendo, I'd be drawing pictures of little robots all day, giving them silly names and abilities, assigning hit points and special attacks, designing the cards, the RPG/Bot 'em up all console game, I'd be on to Hasbro for the toy manufacturing contract, and then I'd release it around November 2001 just in time for Christmas, make a fortune, and retire to my little island (Australia.) Bet you there is something like this coming out very soon......
