I have just found out that SEGA are considering selling the rights of Crazy Taxi to Acclaim. This means if this plan comes to fruition, Crazy Taxi will be appearing on the Playstation and Playstation 2. Reported along with this is the news that at least two other huge Dreamcast games will be following the move over to Playstation.

The implications of this could by quite telling as to whether or not SEGA will be a developer of games only. A lot of Dreamcast games already appear on other formats… Half-Life, Black and White, Sydney 2000. But if some of SEGA’s own games i.e. Crazy Taxi were to follow it could prove to be the end of SEGA consoles, imagine if Shenmue, Jet Set Radio were available on Playstation, there wouldn’t be much call for a Dreamcast. SEGA know this so if the deal with Acclaim was to happen, then surely it would be a sign that they are resigned to defeat. We all know about the massive debts SEGA have and they recently ending making their chips for arcade machines. Granted arcades seem to have lost their appeal, but could we be about to see the revolution, where SEGA become a games developer. It will be sad if this does happen as SEGA have brought many hours of joy to most gamers around the world. They will be missed dearly. But do not despair because as long as the future has SEGA still making their games, we will not miss out. At the end of the day, all that counts is that we are able to play the many original and great games that SEGA have given us long into the future.

NB - Please remember that the Crazy Taxi - Acclaim story is a rumour at the moment. I am simply considering the consequences if the rumour was to occur. I understand that it may not happen.

Where have u been?!?!?! Sega sold the rights for acclaim to publish Crazy taxi on the Ps2 months ago! It's even in reviewable state!

As for sega... they are developing for other platforms, and will soon be 100% 3rd party- especially considering that they are stopping production of all hardware!

This is quite interesting to look back on, yes, the rumours were true, but the situation is different. Sega are now in a position to produce new games and back-catalogue stuff for all the other consoles and don't have to worry about sales of their own console (which are now picking up, of all things, just as they sell out!)

Sega are in a strong position to make their name known for quality again, and the fact that they are supporting the Playstation 2 and Gamecube is fantastic news for everyone.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Easy and free service!
I think it's fab that you provide an easy-to-follow service, and even better that it's free...!
