My new monitor came today, from Dabs.com:

http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-info3-info.asp? &m=y&quicklinx=1718&seltab=specification&nodiv=true (SPACES!)

Factory Preset Resolution Modes: 1920 x 1440 / 64 Hz ª 1800 x 1440 / 64 Hz ª 1856 x 1392 / 66 Hz ª 1792 x 1344 / 68 Hz ª 1600 x 1200 / 68 Hz ª 1280 x 1024 / 79 Hz ª 1152 x 864 / 93 Hz ª 1024 x 768 / 104 Hz ª 800 x 600 / 131 Hz ª 640 x 480 / 160 Hz ª 1024 x 768 / 85 Hz ª 1280 x 1024 / 85 Hz

Front Panel Controls: Power on/off, adjust +/- , select, menu

Max Resolution: 1920 x 1440 / 64 Hz ( multiscan )

Again:

Max Resolution: 1920 x 1440 / 64 Hz ( multiscan )

Once more:

Max Resolution: 1920 x 1440 / 64 Hz ( multiscan )

For clarity:

Max Resolution: 1920 x 1440 / 64 Hz ( multiscan )

That clearly states the max res as 1920 x 1440, yet on the box it clearly states the max res at 1280 x 1024. However, it does say multiscan, which might be special, I've no idea. Does anyone know what this is and how I can enable it (Linux, XFree86 4)? Any help would be much apreciated, because if I can't get at least 1600 x 1200 from this then I've been misold it grossly and I'll have to get my money back.

Cheers

Can you please repeat it's Max Resolution. I didn't quite read it right.

i'm not too certain, so don't take my word for it, but as far as i know multiscan is just to do with the freqency it displays at - the whole Hz figures, and so wont affect resolution - if it says a max on the box, i'd believe that.

But like i say, i'm not 100% certain - last time i heard a mention of multiscan monitors was back in my Amiga days - but i dont like to look back that far. it hurts my neck.

Multiscan refers to the monitor's ability to display in different resolutions/refresh rates.

Well simple answer is that Dabs are displaying the wrong information.
You've said yourself the box states its max resolution, just looked on samsung's site, again its max resolution is clearly stated.

Guess that explains the price difference when you posted about the 2 monitors previously.

Hmm, OK. Well, I'm happy to pay the extra X quid for the more expensive version, but I'm going to try and screw it out of Dabs for misinformation, etc... :-D

Cheers.
