I am currently on the NTL 128kb/s service, But I want to upgrade to the 600k service, would this mean getting a new modem off NTL? Or do I just ring them up and they alter my connection speed?
Also I want to run Xbox Live whilst my PC is off, obviously i'd need a router for this. Which ones do you reccomend off this site?

I would get that one then.

ive done the reverse to you, had 600k and changed to 128k, you just ring them up and they lower the cap on your speed, you dont need a new modem.
So I need this one for £90 then if I want to share the connection with my Xbox and PC simultaneously? Or when the PC is turned off.

But its not the ping thats involved its data. Imagine having 16 players all speaking at once and how much data needs to be recieved and sent for it to work. You will need to have a service of 512k e.t.c., as I think MS have setup servers for games like Unreal where it checks that your download and upload meets the minimum requirement. 128K connect may work with XBox Live but may not work well.
Anyway back to the question gamezfreak, the router that you selected wouldnt work they way that you want, as if you look at the specs its says you need a cable modem. There are two types of routers, routers and router/modems. The first are just routers and need a modem to use the internet. The 2nd is a router and modem all in one.
Go back to the site and look at Nexland ISB SOHO Cable/DSL Router. Also look at the specs as this doesnt say anything about a cable modem. The other you wanted said "Connects to a cable modem".
This router is £90 +VAT and will allow you to have your PC turned OFF while playing XBox Live. Of course if your current Cable modem is external i.e. you have a mains adaptor, and it can be switched ON while the PC is OFF then the router you wanted may work. It all depends on whether your connected to the internet via the external modem or whether you need the PC turned ON to have the modem dial up.
The Nexland ISB SOHO Cable/DSL Router will allow you to set it up so that its connected to the internet when its switched on. So even if the XBox or the PC isnt on, your connection will still be. I think this is what you should get or maybe a different router, but you have to make sure that it has a cable modem built in before you buy one.
Secondly, it's a load of crap having a minimum connection for Xbox Live, OK, modems are no-go areas but even with 128k you can get lower pings that a lot of the faster ones!
They should just have a ping limit, I can get pings of 20 on my 128k modem!
