Now we seem to be seeing a kind of war between styles. One of the fastest growing factions is that of the nu-metallers. But another is the people into the various types of dance music, and the people who like garage music. Now what is the point in all this hostility between them? I don't really care what other people are listening to as long as they actually like it, and don't find it necessary to knock anything different.
So many people are so closed minded and threatened by other styles that they feel they must put them down. I have experienced this so often first hand. People don't like the music I listen to, and don't like the fact that I wear T-shirts that support the bands I like rather than wearing T-shirts displaying corporate logos of multi-million pound companies that are deemed fashionable. So instead of accepting the fact that I have my own tastes and opinions, they think "Ha, I know, I'll call him a grunger, or a goth!"
Now I don't label everyone who likes dance music a 'townie' so why do so many people label anyone into any form of rock music a 'goth' or 'grunger'? What would they prefer, everyone liking exactly the same music? Now wouldn't that be an exciting world to live in.Equally, I don't like the way each faction develops it's own little uniform. The nu-metal kids wear the black hoodies and carry skateboards around, many people who like dance music get all dressed up into their nice shirts. A kid wearing a black hoodie insisting he is being individual doesn't exactly sound convincing when almost all the kids who like Nu-metal wear hoodies like that too. I wear shirts with band logos because I like to support a band whose music I love rather than pay a huge corporate company for the 'priviledge' of wearing clothes with their rand on it. And for some reason that's bad.
Why can't people just listen to what they like, dress how they like, and accept other people for who they are, instead of this constant tension between factions. Both sides are hostile towards each other, neither is an innocent victim (as I have seen so often in Kerrang magazine) as if I walk home in school uniform and there are kids in hoodies, baggy trousers etc. walking past, I am just as likely to get abuse from them as any other kid, so they can't start moaning about how they don't judge on appearance, but they always get labelled, because some of them do.
As far as I can see, each side is just as guilty of mindlessly attacking the other becasue of superficial differences. And it is totally pointless and unnecessary. I bet they think they're being 'grown up' fighting for their little faction, when really they're acting like kids.
Im totally with you for what you say, im tired with the little factions gettin at each other, im hit at by most cus i like any type of music..... if its good.
Its like the "My school is harder than your school, beat him up", also a victim of this many a time, I try to tell them both schools are really cool. It just makes things worst. :(
I get called: Jitter, Tramp, Goth, Trendy, Townie, Dead-beat (by the teachers), stoner and the worst.... Immature.
How i hate that.
Or Oh my GAD would seem more appropriate!!!
I seriously NEVER expected to win with this!!! Usually you have an idea if you think something is decent enough for a GAD win, but I serously never even had a thought about a GAD for this post!
Oh my god! I still can't believe it! hmm... my week wasn't too great what with school coursework and French Oral exams, but this has made it a great end to the week!
:D
Thanks SR...
And RM18 for replying, as I probably wouldn't have looked back here if it hadn't had another reply!
:D
Being a youth today really is terrible, knowing as I am one myself (just turned 16).
I know what music I like and I don't dispaly it on black hoodies but I do wear the odd t-shirt for the bands I REALLY like. Now if I could only get that Far T-Shirt...
Image is what everyone sees as important these days and it really is hard to dress in a way where people won't call you something.
I dress in a range of ways which I like. I must say have been influenced by what the members of my bands wear and that isn't hoodies etc its T-shirts etc.
I love t-shirts hehe
I hate the way people judge, i want out of this era. A few people I know even say they dont like a band because no-one has heard of them before.
I fear the future for youths, i'm so glad I'm out of it soon.
