Hi,
I'm a new PS2 user and have been told that some games require a memory card just to play them. Is this true, as I thought that memory cards were just for storing saved game data? ...Advice please.

Without a memory card progressing through any game will be impossible as every time you switch off you'll have to play it all again, plus any extras you unlock, like in Metal Gear Solid 2, will be lost.

There's a few third party memory cards out now for as little as £15 and you could pick up an official Sony one off Ebay for about that as well, or just go buy a new one for a rip off £25-28

You also need a PS2 memory card to store system data such as the date, clock, tv type (normal or wide), sound options, etc. Without a card, your ps2 will forget the information when you switch off or restart.
