Throughout years and years of gaming, many adventure games have been made. Whether it may be Miyamoto’s classic, The Legend of Zelda, or the, massive exploration that is the Final Fantasy series, they’re all huge games. Adventure means what it says. Explore huge worlds inside-out. But still, however big these games are, they do have boundaries. Whether it may be that get you can’t open, that wall you can’t climb or that mountain you can’t scale, there is limited space.

But what if this doesn’t have to be. Instead of making a game leading up to beating one boss and save the land, then making sequel, after sequel. You could use expansion packs. This could open up a whole you door of possibilities. Making one game for each console and keep bringing out add-ons. Like The Sims. This may be possible if you maybe put an expansion pack in the memory card port and then have another port on the expansion pack to put the memory card in. This would mean that the expansion pack could read the memory card and see where about in the game you were and stop you from having to start again.

If they were brought out in a certain order, then places that were un-accessible in the previously un-accessible areas could be entered. Some expansions packs were needed to play others. Loads of adventures all in one game, it would be amazing! Maybe if enough expansion packs were made for one game a whole country could be accessible or even if millions were made a whole world! After this get on a spaceship and go to another world! It’s just un-imaginable.

But this would be almost impossible, sadly. To do this HUGE memories cards would have to be made, and even if it was possible to make memory cards with this much memory within them, I can assure you they wouldn’t come cheap. Even the 64MB cards which will eventually be released for the GameCube won’t be able to hold the information for a whole country. Maybe you could have a few adventures on one game, but not enough for a whole country.

It would be a nice idea to access places in games that you could only dream about before, more secrets, more boss’ and much more fun. Could you imagine seeing the other side of Death Mountain? Or the town 3 miles down the road from there? But what if you could create your own expansion packs? Maybe being able to buy a program to make expansions for different games. Now that would really be a magical kind of a moment. Adding parts on to your favourite title ever would be more than amazing. But, obviously you’d have to know a bit of programming language and you wouldn’t be able to add on huge amounts because, it’s damn hard!

Another idea would be an all star game. I’m not talking about Lara Croft, Crash Bandicoot and Mario all in one game, what I’m talking about is someone making the main game and other games creators making expansion packs for it. Imagine the mix of different styles of gameplay within a game like that. Maybe even having a game with mixed genres. Say you’re in an adventure game and halfway through you have to win a race to continue, creators who specialise in making racers come forward and take the responsibility of doing this. Playing Final Fantasy and half way through having a race created by the makers of the awesome Gran Turismo.

Computer gaming is getting better and better by the minute. Ever more advanced. If gaming keeps evolving like this, in a matter of years we could have this technology in the comfort of our own homes. Even though I said I wasn’t talking about an all star game full of different characters, it could well happen if this technology is ever developed.

Nice idea, but I'm not sure many people would buy into the idea. Developers certainly wouldn't
