I have had BF 1942 for about 2 weeks now and I love the game, but I can't get used to flying the planes. Is it possibly the mouse/keyboard combination that makes it so hard? and would a joystick make it easier?

Yes, a joystick does make it easier to handle. You need to set it up so that you can use the joystick for the planes but use the mouse for the rest of the game.
Is it anything like Operation Flashpoint? In OF the planes are easy, it's the helicopters that are bloody tricky.
It's similar, but i never had a great deal of difficulty with the copters. In BF 1942, just use a joystick, or the mouse works.
you can use the mouse but its damn hard, i got a joystick now and its much easier.
