This is what we call The Muppet Show!
This is a Muppet newsflash!
On March 11th 2002 a brand new Muppet DVD was released said to contain over two and a half hours of Muppet madness. Here is a report of what is on that DVD.
Well those reports are bloody right, nearly three hours of Muppet mayhem!
Brilliant!
The main feature is a fifty minute specially edited compilation of the funniest moments from various shows.
Now I’m not talking about clips from the newer ‘Muppets Tonight’ show, nope this is all old skool.
The compilation has all the best bits from shows that are really old to well still really old but you get what I mean. Everything from Miss Piggy’s ‘Wonder Pig’ sketch to probably the most famous Muppet sketch ever…
‘Ma Na Ma Na’
Because the show is pushing twenty-five years this year, it will look a tad dated. What with the actual Muppets looking old, their voices aren’t as polished as you may be used to through watching the movies and being able to see the guide sticks.
But it still raises a smile to see Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie and the gang. Singing, dancing, and telling oh so very cheesy jokes.
Granted this is the ‘main feature’ on the DVD but it isn’t the best thing on it…
Yup, the Mark Hamill episode is.
It’s basically a normal Muppet show episode but with the best ‘PIIIGGSSS INNN SPAAACE!’ sketch ever!
Luke Skywalker, C3PO and R2D2 hijack the Swine Trek to try and save Chewbacca who has been kidnapped by the evil Derth Nader, and in true Muppet style only a song and dance number can save him.
Mark Hamill goes all out in the spirit of the show and acts a complete fool, dancing, telling bad jokes and over acting that even Miss Piggy would be proud of.
The Elton John episode is great but it (to me) seems way to focused on Elton John, his name is mentioned loads of times and he appears on screen more than enough times.
But if you put that to the back of your mind, then it is another classic episode on this amazing DVD, which is definitely worth watching to see Statler and Waldorf wearing clothes like Elton John…. Classic!
Extras wise this DVD rocks.
Not only are the Mark Hamill and Elton John episodes are in the extras section, but also you get web links to Muppetworld.com, Character profiles, character facts, concept drawings, Muppet quiz, AND! A whopping fifty minute ‘Of Muppets and Men: The Making of the Muppet Show’ featurette!
Of Muppets and Men is a making of featurette-filmed way back in the seventies when the show had been going for just five years.
This is a brilliant insight to what the makers went through to get each episode made. Jim Henson narrates the entire documentary telling you about how they made the shows.
It shows you how they made particular sketches like the Vikings singing ‘In the Navy’ from recording the song in the studios to seeing Jim Henson, Frank Oz and the rest of the people behind the magic with their hands up a Muppet’s behind scrunched up under a singing Viking boat!
It maybe a little dated and weird to see Fozzie’s voice coming out of some guy with a comb over but its definitely worth a look!
The picture quality is great much better than on video albeit in only 4:3 ratio (full screen) and the sound quality is good but again only in stereo. But who cares?
Two and a half hours of Muppetational entertainment for under fifteen quid!
If you like The Muppets, Star Wars or even Elton John then you will love this.
Go! Buy it now!

I remember them too, so unless we've had some kinda interlinked

My favourite character is, without a doubt, Beaker. The

I cannot keep a straight face when even looking at a picture of
