Halo by all accounts is really the game of choice for the system without a doubt. With its large environments, luscious visuals and supposedly great gameplay, you can be left extremely tempted to purchase Microsofts entry in the gaming world.
But in the end would it really be worth it? Would all your hard earned cash be put to good use (And I mean really good use)in the long term?
It's the Price you see, that makes the system even more unnatractive- not just how the console will fare this time next year.
But lets count it up for a moment, as it will not be £300 you will end up spending naturally:
To experience the best of the system this would be required-
£300 for the system alone.
Then £45 for a game.
£30 for an 'Optional' Memory card to transport your saves to your friends house.
£30 for an extra controller.
£30 for the DVD playback kit, to experience PS2-like DVD movies on your console.
Now that totals to a staggering £435!!
Is that really worth it? Put it this way, if your buying an ideal Gamecube package it is as follows:
£170 For the Console.
£40 For a game.
£25 For An extra Controller
£15 for a memory card
Totalling to an attractive £250-Yes £250!!!
The difference is, is that Gamecube has a strong chance for survival in the three horse race, being 'todays console war'.
It has the backing of Capcom Exclusives such as Resident Evil, it has Squaresoft, Rare and of course Nintendo with its quality titles. The Gamecube is an attractive buy.
X-Box on the other hand is very bland without it's one hit being Halo and sits at an unnatractive price, plus it has a very uncertain future ahead of it.
For those getting an X-Box...Without Halo (Guaranteeing follow-ups) or indeed Sega's X-Box efforts, do you think it remains an attractive buy?
I don't think so.
Don't get me wrong, I would love the system to do well and I'm merely being honest to myself in stating my opinion of the matter.
But there is a constant sticking point: It's the systems long term survival.
> Jesus, how many Gamecube topics have you done?
Dunno, If your referring to this topic being a GC topic-Well my answer for you is that it isn't.
I'm giving an opinion of the 'X-Box' and its chances of survival.
So....This is an "X-Box topic".
You see, I think the console won't survive the long term, it's sad isn't it?
The same for the Dreamcast, such a wonderful console with a lot of great potential and it flopped.
More good games are needed if the X-Box is going to be a success.
