I remember talking to my ex awhile ago and she mentioned that her boyfriend, an american, didn't have a kettle, nor does he have one at home in Florida, neither do any of his friends or family.

How come? Don't Americans drink tea or coffee? Oh I guess if they drink coffee they would just get a coffee machine. Or better yet they just go to starbucks ¬_¬

What if they want a hot chocolate? Do they have to boil a pan or something?

Tea is one stereotype that probably rings true for the English (not sure about British). And why not? It's lovely stuff and (in moderation) is quite good for you. Coffee is good for after dinner or for waking you up in the morning if you've had a particularly heavy night, but tea is there for all the time and it's quite soothing.

Can't get on with those fruit teas though, they just taste like hot water with a very very small hint of fruit (if you're lucky)

Heh yup we do although i noticed alot more use of the kettle in Seattle than New York. I guess because we're more busy so don't have time to be waiting around for a kettle to boil so will just pop into the store on the way and grab a coffee (plus you get much bigger sizes) But yea we have them, though we're nowhere near as obsessed about tea as the Brits seem to be (when they're not getting slaughtered on beer)

I like my thin coffee. Over there, in some places it is quite thick and syrupy which was a bit sickly.
Starbucks rocks though, lots of choice!

They have the best doughnuts. (Or donuts..)

Coffee is big over there, they reckon our coffee is horrible though, so thin.

They have small cups (about expresso size, so enough for 3 gulps) and put about the same amount of coffee as us, so its really strong. That's the typical after dinner coffee. Otherwise its just in normal cups, but still twice as strong.

They tend to use coffee machines, the hob or microwaves. Kettles just never took off.

Mind you, using a kettle uses up so much electricity. Next time you want a cup of tea, first watch the electricity meter go round, then turn on the kettle. You'll be shocked. Try it with a microwave and notice the difference...

lol okay I'll shut up about her.

But yeah looks like it was likely just his family then.

Perhaps drinking tea and coffee isn't big in Spain then. What do they tend to drink there? I've never been myself, probably the only Brit not to. And pb went further and has ended up with a girl from there.

Should I ever go I wanna take part in that tomato throwing event they have :)

A lot of Spanish homes don't have kettles. We had to bring one over.

But most have microwaves by now, so tea, coffee, chocolate etc get done in that. Otherwise, yes, it's boiling stuff...
