Basically at the moment im on a insultingly slow 56k modem.
In my area there are no major cities or whatever, so BT feel the need to never install ADSL exchange anywhere near me.. EVER!!!!!!
But researching i've found out tonnes of alternatives of the same speed, if not faster!

The asymmetric service consists of a downstream path, used for the delivery of content and an upstream path for the carriage of Internet requests. The ideal applications for this service include large file transfer, such as email, text, graphics, video and audio etc. This is currently at the design stage with no trial date set.
Well the satelite Broadband has launched now, and for £60 a month and over £300 for installation and equipment they can screw that, on to the others.
#Mesh-Wireless#
Currently in technical evaluation, Mesh Wireless is a one-to-many constant bit rate (CBR) Broadband service, that will enable Service Providers and other operators to deliver their own Broadband solutions, to customers beyond DSL technology.
Mesh Wireless is a flexible high bandwidth technology, which can provide both a symmetric and asymmetric service. Speeds typically reach 5Mbit/s, with service delivered to end users via an Outdoor unit, situated on the end users roof and internal receiver. No dates have been set for any commercial trial.
Further news on this is that it will be in service soon, and at only £10 a month this looks like my choice.

BT Wholesale Broadband is actively exploring opportunities to deploy Broadband wireless technologies. This could both extend the geographical coverage of the existing Broadband portfolio and provide 'in-fills' to voids in existing coverage areas.
A number of technologies are being explored, including Wireless Point-to-Multi Point (PmP).
Wireless PmP is also known as Wireless DSL and is typically capable of delivering 500Kbps up to 1 Mbps of bandwidth per end-user. It uses conventional base-station (tall mast) technology that is inherently a line of site architecture. Each base-station is able to serve a radial distance of 2 to 3km; this is significantly increased when deployed at optimal sites. This is also currently at the design stage with no trial date set.
Dont know much on this one.
Anyway there you go, in a years time there will be no excuses for laggy 56k!...
Only problem is will we be able to use any of this new equipment/services with our consoles?
