Read this MSN convo, and it shows exactly where today's generation of teenagers are going wrong. The person I spoke to is 13.

Girl: i went out last nite with my cuz and we were gonna get p'ssed

Me: did you?

Girl: kinda

Girl: not bad tho not as bad as we do usually

Me: Heh

Me: do people think it's smart to get drunk? I think it's stupid.

Girl: i think its well cool

Me: Heh.

Me: Why is getting drunk so cool?

Girl: its funny seeing ppl rolling on the floor and seeing ppl do funny things

*Rolls eyes*

I'm glad I have better things to do than rotting away my liver...

Good for you Dave - I could quite easily too. In my life, I've hardly ever been subjected to alcohol, and probably drink it once or twice a year. I've had wines at Christmas and Birthday's, three Bacardi Breezer's at a mates, and that's all it. You know what? I'm proud of the fact that I don't drink much, if any. Whilst other people are biding their time away by drinking themselves retarded, I'm doing something wholesome like eating, playing a game, watching a film or chatting (normally internet) to my friends.

As I could also live without it and all the other tripe, I guess I rule more than Sheepy. Yes!

I rule...more than Sheepy :0)

Belldandy - I realised that sounded classicly addictist (is that a word) when I wrote it, but it is true. I have never been anywhere and thought 'I really want alcohol now'.

If I had to live without alcohol, I could eaisily.

Thats rubbish ! Sure, a few people grow out of it but for many it just carries on until they run out of money, get married or have a really bad experience. Many of my friends started drinking at 13, and they still do excessively now, every night, up town, and its rather pathetic now. A few days back it was in my local paper that a girl at the Uni I go, in her 20's was found dead by her flatmates one morning. The reason ? Over the course of the previous evening, from 5pm, she'd consumed half a bottle of Vodka. Her mates, equally plastered, weren't concerned when, acoording to the report, they checked on her in the morning and she was cold and not moving, it took them until the afternoon to realise she was actually dead.

I rarely drink at all, I don't need alcohol to have a good time but I don't begrudge it to anyone else. I am however, sick of fellow students or work colleagues moaning excuses for not doing stuff because of drinking. I don't care, if they want to get drunk then fine but I really don't want to hear about it, am I supposed to be impressed by a story of drunkenly wandering home or falling out of a taxi, or being sick over project work ? No.

By the way, quite liked Mouldy Cheese's expression "dont call me an addict I can stop If I want", isn't that saying something in it self ? :)

THE GOLDEN RULES OF DRINKING

1) Always have mates around you to help you in case you cross the line.

2) Never drink on your own. This is antisocial, and defeats the object of drinking in the first place.

3) Never drink before 6 PM.

4) Know your limitations.

Whew. Long post that.

Yep I'll agree...

Also it depends on the person... some people become upset and depressed while others blossom and play guitar until 5 in morning :)

I've only had one bad experience... I was up all night drinking a Norwegian wine that was 49% alcohol and was meant for marinating fish... never got to sleep had coco pops and vodka for breakfast and well I met the toilet bowl.

*shiver*

Anyway that started to sound " When I was so drunk I... " don't like them.

Bottom line, I rule.

As with anything, alcohol is fine in moderation.

I started drinking last year, at the age of fourteen. It is a bit early really, but I'm a pretty mature guy and I know what I'm doing.

I've had great times while drinking. It relaxes you, it makes things seem more interesting, and it generaly helps you have a great time. I rarely go out without drinking now - don't call me an addict, because I can stop if I want - and it is a damn fine thing.

But I have had a couple of bad experiances with alcohol. The first was at a house party, where I was the only person who was really experianced with alcohool. I should have stayed sober because of this - hindsight is a great thing.

Anyway, people didn't know how much they could take without being OTT. I managed to drink much more than I should, because some intellectual had decided that you don't need more than 2% coke in vodka and coke. The night ended with 3 people being sick, and me having oral sex performed on me by one of my closet friends.

Yes, female.

Consider that I'm only 14 at this point. Way too early for this kind of stuff to be happening. It messed me up pretty bad. Me and the girl are only now just on speaking terms.]

The only other time I drunk too much was the first night I smoked Skunk. This was only a few weeks ago. As with any new drug, I hadn't a clue how much I should be taking, and as it takes about half an hour to start working I decided that I wanted to be a but merrier, so I drank a bit.

I threw up the entire contents of my stomach, and when that was gone the lining of my stomach. It's whats known as 'pulling a whitey'. It didn't help that we were in the middle of a field. My mates carried me home in the end, which was quite handy because otherwise I would probably have ended up in a pool of my own vomit.

This wasn't strictly drink though, so it only half counts.

So - is alcohol good? Yes, just don't drink too much of it. These experiances that I've described are what happens when you go too far. There is a line - don't cross it.
