Looks like Sega is not out of the woods yet. Profits have fallen by 20%, with slow software sales being one of the main reasons for it.

Could it be that Jet Set Radio Future on XBox is not as earth shattering good as they would have us believe. Does this mean, that there was no fault with the Dreamcast hardware - but instead it was the software that brought Sega down?

Look Dave, can't you just accept that some people do not like Playstations?

They are perfectly entitled to think that Gamecubes or X-boxes are better consoles, just as you are entitled to think that the PS2 is better. Hell they can even laud Sega if they want. So why do you persist in this utterly pointless dirge of "yah boo sucks" posting.

If you're so obsessed with why PS2's are better and why the games are good then write about the PS2 and post reviews of the games. There's no need to constantly dig up dirt on (meaningless) sales figures and broadband coverage stats so you can make some obtuse point about why other consoles aren't as good as your hallowed PS2.

To be honest it's just really, really boring.

If you like games then you shouldn't really care whether they're on Pc's, playstations or anything else. You, it seems, are no better than people who go on about gaycubes and gameboy UNadvanced (HAHAHAA!!! not).

For god's sake there's more important things in life than Sega's profitability.

I disagree. In a world where the average IQ is a mere 100, there must be an awful lot of idiots out there. Indeed, tens of million of people. They also say there are 5 idiots born every minute.

tens of million of idiots, tens of millions of PS2s sold. 5 idiots born a minute, and 10,080 minutes a week. Looking awful lot like the number of PS2s shifting recently, no?

I was just making a point, rather than stating a fact.
It just annoys me when unoriginal games fly to the top of the sales chart and many innovative games sink without trace.

All those gamers are idiots - all of them, that's a lot of people. You must be offending lots of people with that statement, since if you take thousands of people, they can't all be "idiots". It's the same as saying that all people in one part of the UK are idiots, which is simply not possible.

No, it just means that idiot gamers prefer to buy unoriginal rubbish like Fifa 2003 and Tekken 4, instead of giving great and original games like Jet Set Radio Future a chance.

I think that Sega bit off more than it could chew comments like we want to become the biggest Software house in the world were too ambitious I mean did they expect this to happen over night. The reality is that the Sega has been very slow at producing software for any console there are very few Sega titles on any platform, Then there is also the sigma that is attached to the company, there must be a lot of disgruntled Dreamcast owners out there.

Not sure where you get your info from.

Sega actually made a profit this time around, instead of a huge loss like last year.

Got this at Planetxbox.com:

Today, Sega announced its financial results for the six-months ended September 30th. The company reported group net profit of 1.01 billion yen ($8.27 million USD) during the first half of the year, figures that are a change from its loss of 17.83 billion yen last year. This was followed by Sega announcing that first-half sales fell 2.7 percent to 95.1 billion yen due to sluggish sales of some of Sega’s sports titles. Moreover, Sega continued to state that its forecasting 5 billion yen in profits and sales of 200 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2003.

So this year it had a PROFIT of 1.01 Billion Yen, and last year it had a LOSS of 17.83 Billion Yen.

Looks like they're heading in the right direction to me...
