I'm reading "100 years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez at the moment and damn good it is too. I thought you might like it as it's an epic-ish book with strange and magical happenings but without being pixified and beardy. And I wanted to talk about it to someone when I've finished...

This a review from the NY times that might convince you:

"One Hundred Years of Solitude is the first piece of literature since the Book of Genesis that should be required reading for the entire human race. It takes up not long after Genesis left off and carries through to the air age, reporting on everything that happened in between with more lucidity, wit, wisdom, and poetry that is expected from 100 years of novelists, let alone one man...Mr. Garcia Marquez has done nothing less than to create in the reader a sense of all that is profound, meaningful, and meaningless in life."

And it won Marquez the nobel prize so it's good stuff.

I'll probably post a review when I finish it, until then get reading!

Excellent, I've been looking for a book to get into for ages. I'll go to the libery at lunch on Monday, and order both this and Last Exit To Brooklyn.

Yeah, I've heard of this book. My dad's read it, and says I should. Now I've got two recommendations, I'll go to the library first thing Monday. I have to return O Brother, Where Art Thou anyway (I was making an attempt to like the Coens. I failed.)

Cheers Happy man. But without pixies, nothing is complete.

I'll read your review (if you do it) and then I may look into it... but there are loads of other books I'm meant to be looking into, like Bruce Campbell's... Still haven't looked into it
