First of all, what I think needs to be in games, and that’s quite a few things. Namely monkeys. They are funny.
A) Monkeys. As above. Simian madness is really quite funny, especially TS2 when you are drunk……..anyhoo…….perhaps a monkey sidekick is in order, in a game set in space with Flying fish. Super Stevey Simian anyone? Super Monkey Ball showed us that Monkeys can work, so why not some Moneky adventures? :D
B) Remakes. A serious one this. Not necessarily endless sequals, but decent, expansive updates of older games, such as the quite fantastic LBA series, and my personal favourites of Body Harvest and Rush 2049. A beautiful 3-D Body Harvest world, with better controls and graphics would be amazing.
C) Narratives that work and are actually interesting. Halo and Eternal Darkness are probably two of the best I have seen. They create a complex narrative, but deliver it in a well presented and original way, and you actually get involved in the story as well – quite superb if it works.
D) Uber-Weapons and badguys. We need super OTT enemy bosses and weaponry with which to beat them. Something that would make Arnie proud…….
E) Little ickle bunnies……………….or not. ;) Perhaps, rather, more of a variety in games characters. Unnatractive female that takes on obviously chauvinistic ‘high school American guys’ for having her life made a ‘living hell’? Hang on, don’t make that….but keep the idea of variety alive.
F) More cool music – links to other media industries would be cool – such as the Tony Hawks soundtrack ad things like that. I’m not saying there should be too many atrocious movies made, but some more media interaction with games would be cool,
Then, here is what I think there should be less of, or not at all of, in games. Hang on, does that make any sense………?
A) Crates. Why all the crates? WHY?!
B) Keycards. Why all the keycards? WHYYWYYEH WHY?!
C) Evil cackling laughing scientist villains. Go away please. Why not
some……er…..unattractive high school gal? Hang on……I’m being just as bad. Damn!
D) Another serious one. Don’t try to be all different on the basis of a special feature. Sure, if you have lots, then your game is likely to be more original. But if you only have say one special idea, such as Empire Earths unit variety, then you could end up with a pretty dull game……
E)Less stupid ads. Acclaim went a teeny bit to far with all their ridiculous Turok ads, and failed to make a classic game. Less silly names, more good games.
Anybody else?
:D
Donkey Kong 64 ring any bells?
