Right. I have a Playstation, a Dreamcast and a PC. With the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox all going to be readily available, which one will take my fancy?
Playstation 2:
Speed 300Mhz
Advantages: Broadband
DVD player
Backwards Compatible
Uses DVDs as a game format
On the Playstation 2, I like the games. Before you say anything, I am a BIG RPG fan. There are things that I classify as an RPG and things that I don't. Final Fantasy is an RPG. I am particularly interested in the Playstation 2 for not only Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XI, but also Metal Gear Solid 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3 (with a bit of Gran Turismo 3 and Smackdown 3 on the side). I have completed nearly every RPG on the Playstation that I consider an RPG (the only ones I haven't are Wild Arms 2, Suikoden 2 and Star Ocean: The Second Story), so the Final Fantasy releases draw me towards the Playstation 2. I have also played Grand Theft Auto 3, and anyone who says it is crap should be hit over the head with a big fish - its like one of the best games ever! Also the opportunity for me to play my original Playstation games faster and slightly improves helps. I don't have any more space for another console but by getting the Playstation 2 I can get rid of my Playstation (*hears distant shouts of 'Yes! Haha!' from Dringo and his posse). I also want to have a DVD player, and the Playstation 2 gives me that opportunity.
Gamecube:
Speed 405Mhz
Advantages: Small and light
Cheaper than the others
Wide variety of games
Uses ODs as a game format
I don't know why I'm not too keen on the Gamecube. Admittedly it may be that the whole Nintendo thing and their presentation repel me, but by the look of their new games range, I believe that the Gamecube will provide an all-around package for anyone who buys it. There's Luigi's Mansion, the first game in a new genre (I don't count Ghostbusters); Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, another addition to the Star Wars collection; Pikmin, another first game in a new genre and Super Smash Bros Melee, the sequel of the amazing pick 'em up and knock 'em down Super Smash Bros. But maybe it's the whole sequel thing. I mean if a game does well, it gets a sequel - Take Final Fantasy for instance. Yes the developers for Nintendo are creating new genres for individualistic games, but sequels offer a sense of expansion. I not waiting to hear excuses about Sony developers always producing sequels - the previous games have been good enough to get a sequel; Nintendo have had over seventy games featuring Mario and Sega have had Sonic the Hedgehog. Sequels aren't all bad.
Xbox
733Mhz
Advantages: New and the fastest
From Microsoft - depends whether you count it as an advantage
Cheaper than what it would cost to get all the individual parts
(Relatively) easy to make games on, or so I've heard
Here we have the classic newbie. I myself play online games and hate it when a newbie comes along and goes 'How do you play this?' or 'What does this do?' or 'Can I have some stuff for free?'; as I'm sure most of you are. But then again, Microsoft are the worlds largest PC software developer. They at least know at how the competitive console market works - no doubt ol' Bill gates had pumped millions into research for this speedy number. But will he hope that games like 'Microsoft Train Simulator' will keep his console empire bid alive? We're expecting games like Halo. Now that looks good. But will it offer the same quality and quantity of the other two? The main factor here is the price - it's gonna be way too high for me when it's released and probably the two years after that - by then I want at least a new console, a laptop and a trip to America to laugh at the Yanks - and then I gotta start saving for Uni! Damnit.
I'm just a sentimental old fool. No matter what you say, its gotta be a Playstation 2 first. I mean I already have the Playstation that I need to get rid of (*hears Dringo, again*); I'm attached to the Final Fantasy Series and the other games that come with the Playstation 2. Personally, it'll be a boost for me, no doubt. But beware, consider at your own discretion!
JCSuperStar. Whoo Yeah.

Hehe. You were right, nearly no bias at all and a good concise account. Definately PS2 first.
I don't really want an X-Box.
No.. I don't want an X-Box at all!

LOL! use your sense! Of course it has!
The GameCube and X-box haven't even been released yet!
