So why is it?
First of all, picture this: You're playing the original Tomb Raider at the age of 12 on your Playstation in the livingroom. You realise that if you stand in a corner of a room and change the direction you are facing, the camera will zoom in to her chest, then back out. So whilst doing so, you pause the game, and your mum walks in expecting yo see you enjoying yourself. But wait a minute, you're not meant to abuse the game like that re you?
Basically, gamers in general are private people, they like to be hidden away to do as they please without a care in the world. The bedroom is where you feel safest because y can just close your door and not let anyone else in, and it contains most of your persnal belongings. So when you are in your bedroom you can play games, go on the internet and chat to people, and even just try out the above example withh less chance of yor mum finding out.
I doesn't stop with just games and the internet though. for most gamers, who have conles, you need a TV to play the games on, so you've now got the choice of games, or alate night movie. Considering most of these bedroom gamers will have portable TV's, thy are likely to be 'combo's' which include a DVD or VHS player attatched. So now you c do a lot more than just play games. You'll more than likely have a radio/CD player in r room too.
S think about it next time you're playing games. Are you a bedroom gamer, locked insideyr own dark little space, playing games, forgetting life, and forgetting the meaning of eword "social"? Are your forced into gaming in your room because your parents wont aloyou to retune their TV in the living room so that you can have a five minute go whilsthadverts are on before Coranation Street?
But it is a bit of a problem when people come around for 4 player multiplayer games on my N64, as my room is quite small, and the TV's in the corner of the room.
But it's still fun though, as nothing beats Goldenye, Perfect Dark and Mario Kart head-to-head-to-head-to-head!!
:-)
I like to space all my stuff out.
Socialising for me is every once in a while, going to town and buying more videogame stuff with my friends......
> I am finfin it hard to come to terms with but since I got my PS2 and joined
> these forums my social life is dwindling away...
'finfin'!!!! I meant finding
Then I got an N64, more or less the same thing only I didn't get up early.
Then I got my own TV.
WHAM! That was it, my computers go straight into my room (I think it was a way to get me off the downstairs TV to be honest) and now my gamig life is much more easier and enjoyable.
I tend to play games with friends nowadays though or I don't play at all, usually friends will come round and we will all play it's rare that I play on my own (not like that sheesh some people, by the way I don't have Tomb Raider and I ever have :-P).
I maybe lock myself away if I'm really engrossed in a game, say Zelda, Final Fantasy or something with a strong storyline but I never let it take over, I go out a lot, I never let games become my life. I suppose I'm waiting for the Gamecube nowadays though.
I suppose I'm lucky quite a few of my friends enjoy games and we all play together on them sometimes.
On a downer though, there's no arcardes anywere near me.
Ah well.
