The console- Big. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so large so I was initaly quite shocked. Think a tad smaller than VCR size and you're there. Having said that it still looked good with the green and black. In regard to the size I don't care anyway, it's the games that count.
The controller- Now really everyone, what is the big fuss here. I really like the controller. All the months of nintys saying its terrible are simply not true. Its smaller than my DC pad for a start, so not that large. The triggers, moulded D pad and sticks felt good too and I was plesently surprised to find its more comfy to hold than the DC pad too. There is one complaint however, the action buttons are too close together. Somtimes while playing Amped I hit 2 buttons at once. Overall, very good.
Games- Ther was a demo with lots of different games to play. I had a go a PGR which I was very impressed by. It had the looks alrite and my friends all noticed it straight away. It played good too, powersliding around new york in a BMW. Its got great reviews and my impressions were good too.
Amped- Plesently surprised by this one acually. I thought this was just a duff snowboarding game to make up the numbers at launch but in fact its dam good fun to play. I really liked it because it played so well and looked slick.
Bloodwake- Hmm- ok. Water based combat in large boats. Intitally played quite well however I read in a mag it got repetive and I was beginning to see how. Apart for blowing the hell out of other boats there wasn't much else to do. The water efects looked great though.
No playable Halo demo was there but I watched a clip of it and boy, it looks amazing. I'm a huge FPS fan, it will rock my world.
Anyway, feeling smug to know I had already pre-ordered my xbox I went and had a chat to the guy at the counter of the shop. I mentioned the size and he said "yeah, its sure one impressive machine" He meant it too.
He was on about Halo and he said it lives up to the hype and them some as he's played it. I them asked him about how they were doing with pre-orders. " we've had loads" he said then suddenly he pulled out a list with 50 or so names, mine was no 6 on the list, and then he said " we're expecting loads more pre oders next week coz people will be going mad for them(xbox that is)"
I said thanks to him and all then I looked over at the xbox unit in the corner. Litteraly around 7 or 8 people were in the queue to play it, which surprised me. " whooo, its big" people were saying but that was quickly followed with " I like this game though"
So there you have it, I was impressed and so were others. The dude at the shop said interest was high and he even expects it to rise and my final point is about the controller. It's no where near as bad as people say, just try it for yourself.
Oh I almost forgot, I saw an xbox add on TV that same night. The advertising seems to be hotting up.
Go out and play one guys. Forget about who it's made by, just enjoy yourselves.
The games:
Amped snowboarding- Not impressed, the controls were flawed and the graphics hardly outstanding considering it is on the most powerful games console ever.
Project gotham racing- Nice graphics, but not much else, after trying to powerslide round the corners to get maximum kudos i found myself just crawling round, burnout is better.
Blood wake- Utter tosh! my broher and i played a 2 player multiplayer, the boats were crap and the weapons worse, some ok power-ups were perhaps the only redeeming factor.
The controller:
Bloody hell, i found the analogue stick to be too far over, leaving me to stretch my thumb in a vain attempt to reach it, the thing was too fat and felt a little unnatural. After i was finished with my 10 minute shot my thumb was sore. In comparision to the PS2 and Gamecube controllers it is a very poor effort.
The Machine:
Good god! What a clunking behemoth, the thing is at a 45 degree angle to fit in the case, it is the same size as my VCR for gods sake! The green and black colour was nice though.
There is no recall. Only 600 complaints were recieved. Discs were scratched on the edges- not on the surfaces. The proportion of faulty Xboxs is FAR less than that of PS2's at launch.

Sonic
The story is like this. Around 250 complaints were recieved about scratches appearing on the outside of JP gamers xbox disks. These scratches are acually purely cosmetic, the game still runs fine although if you saw them you would of course be worried. 250 of 250000 is about 0.1 percent of hardward that is defective. So no recall of a quarter of a million machines. That is official.
US XBOX controller....There will be a re-release, Apparently US consumers complained about the Controller being rather uncomfortable and cumbersome. Microsoft will release a new controller being smaller and with different features.
Official INFO no.2:
Microsoft have re-called 'ALL' Microsoft X-BOX consoles in Japan, due to a fault in DVD Scratches and numerous faults in Hardware.

I'm not bothered who it's made by, I've got a few Microsoft PC games myself, I'm just bothered by the controller not letting me enjoy myself....
