Nintendo shouldn't have merged with sega because they do not need them. The N64 did just fine, and the only games Sega can make are the ones where you move a blue little hedghog around.
It is true to say that mario is also the Nintendo mascot, however Nintendo make a wide range of games
Sonic games arn't fun either, for they have no plot, and the only decent game they have made is Shenmue

I think I have to agree that Sega has the best development teams of the lot, despite me being a huge Nintendo fan. Sega has games of most genres, and were the people to release the first online games console (which I am using to type this) with a browser that has suprised me to say the least!

Sega has games which cover racing, sports, adventure, action, and even just pure, entertaining madness (crazy Taxi 2).

Anyway, that's enough of me backing up Mark's point, but back to the main point of the topic, Nintendo needing Sega. Well, it's not really a case of nintendo needing Sega, due to the fact that the Pokemon franchise bringing in huge sums of money all the time. It's more of a case that Sega need Nintendo, because, even though they have some of the best games around, not enough people were buying their consoles, noticable from the Saturn era, so Sega are now relying on Sony, Microsoft and nintendo to keep licensing their games onto their consoles.

Hmmmm....all these games are FANTASTIC:

ChuChu Rocket!
Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi 2
Headhunter
Jet Set Radio
Phantasy Star Online ver 2
Skies of Arcadia
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure 2
Virtua Tennis 2

and they were all made by SEGA, which leads me to the question: WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SMOKING???? And these are just the SEGA games that I own or have played on the Dreamcast alone. There are LOADS more. SEGA are easilly the BEST developers ever. Their games are more often than not absolutely amazing and are their back catalogue includes some of the most original and innovitive titles around. Make no mistakes, Nintendo has made a VERY wise decision by giving SEGA the rights to develop for the GameCube and Game Boy Advance.

How do I know this for sure? Well, yesterday I played Sonic Advance...AND I WANT IT SO BAD, I WOULD MURDER SOMEONE FOR IT. ChuChu Rocket on the GBA is also a great game.

What on Earth are you on.

The N64 was a FLOP. Pure and simple. I admit it had FANTASTIC games like Zelda and Mario (I had the console for 4 years!), but when Ninty made development kits for the console they said that "Only we will make games for the console at first, and other companies can make games for after release". Basically, they thought they didn't need companies like Square on their side.

The result? Well Sony had over 90% of the market, and Ninty were in the weakest console position they have ever had!

Now Ninty are back on track, and they have realised they need good third party support. So that includes people like Sega.

As for the mention of Sega and Ninty merging, where did you hear this rubbish? 50% of Sega's games over the next years are for the PS2, with the rest evenly shared around the Xbox, GC and GBA!

actually thinking about it , the n64 did great in the US and japan , but could have done even better here and there if sega were on board as you would have had all those potential sega customers to lure in to buy an n64.
