Return To Castle Wolfenstein was rather smartly split for development between ID themselves and Gray Matter. Would this multi-dev approach make AVP3 a better game than its predecessor and rival the original in the series? Should Fox just give up, admit the marine section's the most popular and bias towards that vs the other two species if they can't be bothered to think up a story for Predator and Alien? Should Alien and Pred campaigns be added as mission packs after much more development time has been spent on them only (it's the AVP franchise, sales aren't going to be an issue)? What do you think?

Who should develop it is a tough question. Raven and Monolith are both very talented development teams, but they make story-driven games with plenty of cutscenes, which probably doesn't suit the style too well. Plus Monolith always insist on using Lithtech, while brilliant for games like NOLF 1 & 2, it just doesn't suit an Alien game. I say that AvP3 is best developed as a completely first person experience and should be developed by the talented minds at either Valve or 2015. I also believe that the game should be marine-only. If there's any demand for Predator/Alien campaigns, there's always the potential in add-on packs.

Now System Shock 3 with the Doom 3 engine - that would be brilliant! But only as long as they get the people who coded the Dark Engine to do the sound! Haven't heard the sounds from the Doom 3 engine, but I still reckon the Dark Engine, especially given it's age, has the best sound propogation of any one I've heard. The tension in the first level of the Marine game was good the first time you played it because you were never sure that something wasn't going to jump out of you and it forced you to be cautious. Once the aliens started arriving, it went a bit pants. The Alien missions, even in AVP2, were great, especially the evolutionary aspect, although if I had to bite my way out of that chap's chest one more time...

I really liked the story aspect of AVP2, although the plot was cliched, there was a notable talent in weaving all the stories together. In my opinion, the Alien was the best species, but the predator was a real let down. I really want to play a kick-ass virtually indestructable Predator, but they had to go about balancing the gameplay. So how about an AVM (Alien vs. Marine) game? Dump the Predator aspect because they can't implement it properly (it might be impossible). Although considering an AVP movie is in the works, it looks doubtful whether they would consider this.

AVP3. Well considering PRIMAL HUNT got dragged through the dirt handing over dev commitments to other teams doesnt seem so lucrative anymore. AVP2 IS and always WILL BE a fantastic game and anyone who thinks it is otherwise (yes you!!) can come round my house, knock on my door...and go home with your head on backwards and a large pole neatly shoved up your ace. I`m seriously bored of people ripping apart the Litchtech engines (even though NOLF 2 is obviously changing many peoples minds) and its time it was given due some long overdue credit.

So I guess either the current JUPITER engine or dare I even consider it?...the Unreal Warfare Engine (current Engine of choice) should be used to really make the leap into the realms of an AVP game finally being all it can be. Can anyone imagine the talented guys at Monolith/Fox using the UW engine for AVP3?...oh my...the very thought sends small trickles of exctiement down my crotch area. As for dev teams..I think going outside of the main Monolith team ala Primal could spell ULTIMATE D O O M for the overall game. And like Paul Anderson being chosen to direct the AVP movie...this will as they say "not deliver anything remotely like the core substance, and become rather a mere shell with little content and a very bad smell".

So, who should make AVP3?

To say this post is by a JAT dont you think its good everyone!

I think it should be atari, part of their big comeback.

It would be nice if they used the deus ex 2 engine aswell, I know theif 3 is using that.

Good post.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
