Codemasters are working on a football game that allows you to recreate an image of yourself and play alongside and with your favourite team.

Great idea you may think, sure sounds good, doesn't it?

There's a catch though. They are thinking of releasing this new game branded as 'team specific'. So whilst you will be able to by the Manchester United version, there isn't a Bolton Wanderers version. Nor is there a Spurs edition. In fact only 6 teams out of the full Premiership are pencilled in for their own game.

The 15 teams in total are:

AC Milan
Ajax
Arsenal
Aston Villa
FC Barcelona
FC Bayern Munich
Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea
Hamburg SV
Inter Milan
Juventus
Leeds United
Liverpool
Manchester United
Rangers

Now whereas I'm not averse to playing alongside Beckham, Giggs and Keane, I'd much rather be feeding balls into the box for Alan Shearer. And roughly 7/10ths of the football fans who play games who haven't had their team represented in the Codemaster's lineup would probably feel the same way and want to have their team represented too.

From a marketing point of view, do Codemasters really think that they aren't alienating 50% of all Scottish footie fans by not having Celtic in their list? Or did they do some research and discover that Celtic fans don't own consoles or something?

Codemasters are trying something new here, which is good. Games that are 'tailor-made' for us are something that we could only dream of in the past, and Codies are trying to cater for that in some small way with this idea.

I'm personally not upset that they haven't included Newcastle United FC in their list, who knows, they may appear later if demand increases? And it won't stop me buying Codies' games in the future, their TOCA range is always worth the pennies.

It'll just probably stop me buying this particular game, that's all.

My thoughts are the same as Gangsta Hamsta's. Why does it need to be on a separate game?

Is it to appeal to fans of one of those 15 clubs, with the idea that 'this game is especially for them'?

If not, how does it justify the separate games? The principle behind programming is efficiency and generalisation. Not making 15 different games. Something doesn't add up here.

Publicity perhaps? An attempt at originality?

Risky, either way....

Celtic are on par with Manchester United in terms of merchandise, I can't understand why they where not included.
You have:
Celtic Wine.
Celtic Beer.
Celtic Superstore.
Celtic Credit Cards.
etc etc etc....

Plus Celtic have the biggest domestic football stadium in England-Scotland-Apparently (Beating Old Trafford in capacity).
Celtic are Champions.
Celtic are top of the league.
And Celtic have more Money than Rangers.
Again..... very weird!

Look at the whole choice of team they are allowing you to choose from. Why would they choose teams like this?

AC Milan
Ajax
Arsenal
Aston Villa
FC Barcelona
FC Bayern Munich
Borussia Dortmund
Chelsea
Hamburg SV
Inter Milan
Juventus
Leeds United
Liverpool
Manchester United
Rangers

Where dod you get the info for the game from? I would like to know why they chose these teams and their reasons for leaving all the other big named teams from around the world out of it. My only guess is that these teams are the biggest selling in terms of merchandise, but where are Celtic, Real Madrid etc?

They're a small firm????

Been to their HQ or recruitment conferences recently? They're one of the biggest developers in the UK!

Codies are a small firm, maybe there were cost constraints. Maybe the management stepped in and said "We want them, them, them, oh and them because my mate Joe's sister's cousin's dog once sniffed one of their shirts", and there wasn't much room, for some other teams. Anway, I'm sure there are some very good reasons why not. Codies aren't stupid.

Sounds a good idea that isn't been worked on as best as it could.

Also the fact that rangers are there and celtic aren't is very odd, a lot of disapointed people there.
One thing I thought on when reading it was the possibility of clubs themselves putting something into it ie pay us a little and we will release your teams version of the game? Maybe I am reading too much into it but it does seem odd by there choice of teams.

Take the likes of FIFA and Pro Evolution soccer, they have a lot of teams and realistic players, I'm sure the date required to store your own details can't be that much can it?

Sad to say i think this could be a huge flop if they continue along these lines.

I think this is just a money making scheme.

Surely the code which stores your face and stats is exactly the same across each game. I dont see why you can't just pick the team you want your player to be on.

I can't see how it could possibly take much extra programming. Certainly not enough to warrant releasing different games.

Shame that.

You're right about the TOCA games too FM :D

My god! I can't imagine anyone buying all 15, unless they're an utter nutter

I didn't make it clear in my original post. This is 15 SEPARATE games we're talking about, not one game with just 15 teams in it.
