I too have been luck enough to avoid it for most of my life.
Except basketball camp. They run it at a school, with old army beds in some classrooms, using the (massive) sports facilites. And the changing room showers are as indiscrete as you would expect. You can't even keep your towel neat where you leave, it's just a brisk walk with your shower gel to try to protect your modesty.
