So... it's possible that matches during the World Cup could be split into quarters...
Due to the heat they'll be playing in, I could accept this *strictly as a one-off* if it was purely for the players to take on fluids.
However, if this is a prelude to dividing football into quarters on a permanent basis, then I am 100% against it.
In a game suchas Amercian 'football', I can understand it: the game is all stops and starts anyway, and due to the limited attention span of the average American, it's probably a good thing for that game.
However, football is a continuous, flowing game - and a pause halfway through each half could seriously affect that flow.
And besides, as said it could totally break down the fluid of the game, if one team is full of confindence and playing well and suddenly 'quater time' comes around it totally changes the game when it restarts.
But something will have to be done if the temperature does become very high over there this summer. Maybe all matches should be played at night or something??
Or maybe they should take more than plenty during half time??
Maybe one extra break in the second half, only for a minute or 2 wouldn't be that bad??
But if they stop at 22.5 mins through each half just for 90 seconds, that seems a bit pointless.
Maybe they should say something like "If a natural break in play occurs between 20 and 30 mins through each half, then they can stop once for 90 seconds" or something like that.
The manager having a chance to have words with all of his team, even for just a minute.
The team that had the upper hand would lose some of their attacking momentum at the time, stuff like that.
So would they stop after 22 and a half minutes, or wait until the ball went out of play around then, and call on the boys with the oranges?
If the game started from where t stopped, a throw in, free kick, corner etc, it would be less of a change, but how likely is that?
"It's a game of four quarters" - Nah, doesn't sound right.
Doent look like it will happen though.
Remember somthin about in World cup 94? They didnt allow it then, doubt they gonna do it know.
Some Fifa Spokesman for Fifa was saying "there is a very slim chance" of it happening. Not that hot out there apparently.
A 90 second pause once in a half isnt that bad though is it?
