It had a table of spec's for each of the three next gen' consoles: GameCube, X-box and Playstation 2. And it was trying to say which one(s) are the best for you. So I was reading all the techno babble, and I came to the bit which said "Mascots".
So here are the mascots, that GamePlay claim each console has:
Playstation 2: Solid Snake
GameCube: Mario
X-box: Bill Gates
What a load of tripe!
For a start, Snake is from two games on the Playstation systems, surely even Crash Bandicoot has gotten more games on a Sony System and bacome more popular so far than Snake. Although I do remember somebody once claiming Lara Croft to be the Playstation's mascot. You could say this is valid though, Snake hasn't been on any other system as far as most of you are aware, but you can't really have a Sony Mascot on a competitors console can you (Game Boy Color)?
Ok, I'm sure one of you is going to mention Sonic being on the GameCube and Game Boy Advance, but remember, Sega aren't competing with Nintendo at the moment, seeing as Sonic Team have worked with Nintendo on projects, Sega signed a deal with Nintendo and Namco on arcade machines, and are releasing GameCube exclusive games in the near future.
Anyway, back to the point. Bill Gates being the X-box mascot? Well, aren't mascots meant to say something about the company or it's console in the gaming world? Surely weedy little William with his massive glasses isn't going to make you want to buy the X-box is it? If you read that in Special Reserve magazine you'd soon order the Playstation 2 or GameCube! Bill Gates is just as much a mascot for the X-box as I am for Doncaster Rovers football club! He may own the company that developed the X-box, but the X-box hasn't had time to develop it's own mascot yet! You need to give it a chance first.
So, what's left to talk about is the GameCube, is Mario really the mascot for the 'Cube? Well, that one's harder to answer. Although he's Nintendo's mascot, I don't think I'd consider him to be the mascot of Nintendo's latest console. Luigi is the main star of the show at the moment, and I feel that he deserves to be the GameCube's mascot! Mario hasn't even got a completed game for UK yet! Mario Sunshine is in development, and God only knows if we'll see any other of the many Mario games released on the 'Cube.
So don't believe everything you read in magazines! The rest of the spec's may be correct in that mag, but I know that the mascots aren't. Well who do you think should be considered as mascots for each console?
*Note: I only recieve GamePlay because I once found a postcard which said "Free Pokémon Poster", I sent it to the address and found it was by GamePlay.
There's even a Game Boy Color game of it (shudders)
(OI!
> WHY CAN'T I SAY P***Y? Is SR afraid of Meka, maybe?)
I feel under the weather today, is that perhaps why I don't understand?
Could you explain this to me, or would it ruin the joke?
(OI! WHY CAN'T I SAY PUSSY? Is SR afraid of Meka, maybe?)
Imagine how many people who feed it to their dog...
> Metal Gear was on the NES too, I believe. Not sure if Snake was in it or not.
In fact Metal Gear 2 had the sub title "Snake's Revenge" or just "Solid Snake" if you had the Japanese game.
I'd say Mario was the mascot, because we'll have games like Mario Kart too, and hopefully Mario Party.
