Blood, Gore, Violence etc.: Are these attributes that we need in our games today? Are these all a 'must' for action games and the likes? I believe that game designers put these effects in to make the games more realistic. For example killing someone with a shotgun and not getting any blood - whats the fun in that? Well my point is that does it actually make the games play better, more exciting, and the like. I heard that in the Australian version of Grand Theft Auto III there is no blood. Will this mean that people wont buy the game? I dont think so. This brings up the question, again, what is the point. I'm sure that the age limit on some games gets pushed up because of the amount of blood and gore. If this was limited more people could enjoy games like GTA3 becasue there wouldnt be an 18 rating on it. Would you actually not buy a game if it had no blood when you killed someone? Sure it wouldnt be as realistic but you buy the games for how they play - not because its the most gorey game ever! I just want to make the point that i dont mind and dont have a problem with violence and gore in games. Its just some sick minded people decide to act out what they see in games and ruin it all for other people. If gore was reduced and crime as a result came down i'd be in favour. If it meant that games didnt get a bad name for them and weren't restricted in some countries i think it would be a good thing. Sometimes because, games are rated 18, it encourages illegal copying of games. People who are not 18 still want to play the games but cant. So they go off get their mates 18 year old brother to copy the game for them and they have it. So does this mean that putting an age restriction on a game works? Sure the shop wont let you buy it if your not 18 but surely their not so naive that they think it will stop people under 18 from playing them. The blame cant be laid on the game makers, though. All they can do is put a rating on a game. It would be immpossible for them to stop anyone who is under a certain age from playing them. So to sum up i believe that gore, violence etc. etc. should be reduced in games becasue overall it does not make them any better (more realistic yes but not better!) and by reducing these more people can enjoy truly great games!

Oh come on! You cant be that sad that you get frillz out of watching or playing an 18 rated game or film. Does it make you feel big? Bit sad dont you think?

I wouldn't say that age ratings mean kids resort to piracy. More like, they resort to getting their parents to buy something for them. I did it with GTA3, as did almost every other under-age owner. Age limits and gore encourage people to buy something, more than prevent them. The first game to be given an official BBFC 18 rating did so more out of a publicity stunt than anything else. Thousands of people bought the game just because it had the rating.
